West:

-More offering on Asian Dramas/movies on tv/easy to access & not so shady services. I'd like to see how the rest of the Asian world is coming along artistically in the visual medium without being niche and hard to promote/support.

East:

- Charity culture. It's not as well known or rarely ever gets highlighted as much as in the western world. Makes it hard to see/support causes that are worth noting.

West: Vending machines for cigarettes and alcohol.

East: Unpixellated porn. And less noncey/rapey porn n'all.

West: Proper karaoke. Not dingy bar in public on holiday, but awesome private room with friends and great selection of music and foods and drinks on a Wednesday when bit tired after work. Better selection of Asian fast food, or as in Norway anything at all. Easier to just make friends and conversation.

East: ... hmm. I missed good dairy products (that didn't cost an arm and a leg). And maybe some social codes, like I like hugs with friends. Less cutie stuff, everything is cute and often it falls way into creepy territory.

West: "Tough" police and strict anti-drug laws, like in Asian countries. Having lived in China for several years, I really miss the safe and drug-free streets since I've returned to Germany. Mr Lee's California Beef Noodles. Very hard to find in Europe. Yoshinoya. Even the fast food tastes great in Asia.

East: They need real beer there. Japan is pretty good at brewing beer but the Tigers, Tsingtaos and Changs of this world can fuck right off. I also love drinking water from the tap which is fine almost everywhere over here. Also I think a kind of tipping culture would help in Asia, so service would be a bit less bad.

Tipping is considered rude in Japan, as you're insinuating that the managers aren't paying the waiters enough.

Oh my God, Yoshinoya! Yes, please!

As for the service, at least in Hong Kong you haven't been local eating unless you were treated like scum the entre stay ? It got old real fast, but the food ... Sigh. The food! Worth it.

West: I would say JRPG's however it seems they are becoming mainstream now.
East: The Xbox it's a major commercial product of the US it would help the economy of the gaming sector along with a surplus of new Japanese developers creating games for import.

I've always found them to be quite popular anyway, they just started to tumble down the pecking order during the mid-to-late PS2 era.

Matsuya over Yoshinoya any day of the week ;)

I so don't get the appeal, but that shit was ridiculously easy to find in the two Porn shops I went into the last time I was in Tokyo. The whole "rapeplay" thing is just bizarre to me in general. Hell, I had an ex girlfriend who was into that nasty shit. She wanted me to rapeplay with her...made me uncomfortable as all hell and needless to say that relationship lasted only a month or two. Call me conservative in my sex life if you must, but the rapeplay shit really makes me uncomfortable. Yeah, I just don't get the appeal...sends shivers down my spine. But it is apparently a turn on for some people. I guess whatever floats their boat but it's not for me. <shrugs>

West: Efficient Train Systems; Bullet Train -- okay, at least here in Australia I wish we had those two. The Japanese rail system puts almost everyone else to shame (in my opinion.) The rail system is incredible and I miss it so damn much. Akiba...just let me take Akiba and import the entire district into Sydney...would make me so happy. Arcades. I miss the the hell out of arcades...I really do. Granted, they're also kind of slowly dying in Japan but at least they are still a thing over there. And I would gladly take what's left of their arcades.

East: I don't really know to be honest. As others have said, maybe a little more relaxed in social codes.

I request it of my guests. Apparently Canada is better regarding shoe etiquette, I've heard?

Indeed we are; it is EXPECTED to take off your shoes, regardless of your ethnicity, background, age, etc.

It is why homeowners who do permit it, say, "you can leave your shoes on," as it is the custom to remove.

I'm the only person i know who requests them off. Hell, even my own family doesnt in my childhood home.

In the West:

Bidet water spray guns for toilets.

Taking off shoes inside the house.
