Star Wars

So apparently, Disney is considering splitting Episode 9 into two films.
Whatever your thoughts are concerning the sequel trilogy, considering how "weird" of a place Star Wars is currently in, I would think that most would agree on this being a good move.
I think it's to address the fact that we haven't really got any story from the last two movies, and they can't fit 3 films worth of story into another lol...

I mean seriously not much has happened at all in the two movies in the grand scheme of things. I feel like one film won't really be enough to bring everything together. Honestly I think the biggest mistake they made was killing Snoke before we even found out who or what the hell he is...

I also really like The Last Jedi. Far from perfect and plenty of flaws but most of the major stuff that most people complain about I saw as a positive...
I'm exactly the same, subverted all my expectations and I enjoyed it.

Couple of videos (there's some crossover between them) that I referenced when I was trying to explain what I liked about TLJ to people. In the end though if people don't like something then no amount of debating is going to change their mind and that's fair enough.

I'm still baffled to this day why so many people love Star Wars so much.
They're cherished films from my childhood, I don't think they're objectively any good. I imagine a lot of people feel similarly.

Hmm...name the second half Episode 10 maybe?

Been a Star Wars fan for 30 years (yes, I started early) and these are my thoughts:
Force Awakens - Brilliant fun, great timing, JJ. Abrams did put in his super-obvious references, though, which are a little annoying. He just keeps doing that. (Like "KIIIIRK" in the second Star Trek or using Han Solo quotes in Ep. VII).
TLJ - I liked it. What I did like (apart from the stunning visuals) is the fact that the story is not streamlined. There are bumps and dead-ends in the story and I think this adds to the experience.
Rogue One - Great movie, but not very much Star Wars IMO. It's a very good space-war movie.
Solo - Haven't seen it yet. Was about to see it in the open-air cinema 2 weeks ago but it was raining...

^ IMO, Solo was a mixed bag of greatness, unnecessary crap and missed opportunities

Frankly, I still wish they had cast Anthony Ingruber in the main role, but hey...
Regardless, you should definitely go see it for yourself !

I am just going to watch my digitally remastered in THX VHS Box Set of the originals and rock and back and forth in the fetal position.

Force awakens was a fun come back movie to ease people back in, Rouge One was amazing, The Last Jedi was an utter abomination. The Han Solo movie is a story that didn't need to be told and no-one asked for and in some ways ruined the mystery of the Han Solo character.

While I hope JJ can repair the utter clusterf*ck of TLJ I don't think I'll be going to the Cinema to see Episode 9 ... It's the first Star Wars movie where that's happened to me, but I just feel Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnston have ruined the franchise.

4) identity politics and their growing importance in all things Star Wars.

Never really understood people critiquing this aspect (of anything). To my ear all I hear is "wah wah I used to have the cool references reflecting ME and I don't want to share that experience! ... wah." When I first saw TLJ I loved it much because shit pants there's a kick ass, elder (even rarer, ageism is real especially for female actresses) vice admiral. Yes, Holdo should have talked to people about the plans, but that doesn't mean she wasn't awesome. And there was captain Phasma too! I admit I have a soft spot for Gwendoline Christie, she slays it in Game of Thrones. Literally. SW have always been a diverse place, with lots of different kinds and ideas. I like this development, taking it further, a lot. I don't know if the whiners ever think about it, but when I grew up and since then I've watched so many films and shows and comics, read books and comics, and rarely did I get anyone to aspire to, to think wow that could be me! Playing in the snow, playing at SW in snow caves, I always pretended to be Solo. It would have been nice to have a Rey, to see smn like Rey in the stuff I enjoyed so much. Happy for the new generation!

I keep a porg in my office in the hospital, it's a great ice breaker, it looks adorable, and yes, that's what I wanted and got from my girlfriends for my 31st birthday (I have the best friends even though they didn't get why I wanted a porg ?).

SW means a lot, it's childhood, it's a film series that I will always go to the movies to watch (with my dad, yay), and can't wait for the next. Hope they do Fisher justice in it, she was a fabulous person who did so much good work for especially people struggling with mental health issues.

It's not that people are upset about the diversity, it's that the forced diversity comes off as forced and cheapens the overall experience. I personally don't care at all and I didn't even really notice it, but I did cringe at the "rich people are evil" nonsense...

Also Leia exists so I'm not sure what you were trying to get at with "wish we had rey"?

That's my point though, it's not really forced in the SW universe, it's always been diverse. And what's wrong with diverse anyways? It's like people are offended anyone else than white males are represented which makes no sense. Wish more people didn't notice or care, like you do. Why would one care?

We had Leia, sure, and I thought her awesome. She was still only one though, and most people remember her for the bikini. I didn't care for the bikini (to be fair I was 7-8 years old and living in the far north where no one wore bikinis, my fav was V, probably cause the landscape reminded me of the landscape around usage gave us an excuse to play at fighting in the snow) but of course found her strangling Jabba very satisfying.

@Kodama btw, I didn't mind having male heroes, plenty of amazing characters who are amazing regardless, but it is just nice to see different personifications of those traits. That's all.

Love that counter-argument.

"Why does it have to be a black woman!?" ?

"Mate, I was fine with the other character bein a white guy, what's the problem?" ?‍♂

Yeah I really don't understand the complaints towards Star Wars on this subject either. None of the new characters felt overly forced to me. But I do completely understand the same argument being used in say, Marvel comics for example...

OK. Why? I'm not out to attack you, just actually curious. For me, characters are characters, it's their personalities that matter. So I don't mind re-makes with new personifications of characters (heck, fiction IS re-make anyways). For new viewers or readers that might be the story they might like the most and love the most.

The bolded part is exactly true, which is why I hate how people think that what's between their legs or the color of their skin count as "diversity"...

Well, frankly, because 99/100 that personalization is a white dude. And as said, I don't mind them when they are, I still enjoy the show, so why would someone of a different skin color or gender representing that character make people mind? I'd still enjoy it. And yes, having others than white dudes IS diversity, as long as we keep on that 99/100. More often than not that 1/100 appears some token character, which sucks. That might be what you mean? The tokenism? In which case, we agree. I don't want to presume or put onto you beliefs you don't have, like "that character can't be anything but a white guy!" (which wouldn't leave much for anyone else given our pop culture history, re-makes are huge and they bring in the cash these days). Maybe we just need new stories, and that's where SW IMO is getting it right. Wish more people thought like you, that they don't even notice cause what is there to notice? Some role not being headed by a white dude? Meh. Before we get there I'll watch any new Marvel, Ghost Busters, Dr. Who, what have you, heading this way.

Update: Apparently that wild rumour's source is Mike Zeroh, a YouTube Star Wars 'news' channel that's the absolute worst when it comes to clickbait fake Star Wars info. Safe to say IX will span one film.
