What are you playing?

My enthusiasm for Death Stranding has wained quite a bit. My OCD was driving me to create roads and I've done all the ones I need in the second area as the remaining, it's easy just to drive across the land. The main headache for me that's killed my enthusiasm is the guy who's up in the mountains. Getting up there is just such a pain in the ass. Hopefully this is the last obligatory mission that sees me travel to him.
Oh wow... I'm shocked... :ROFLMAO::p

@danielmann861

I haven't played the game yet but the "misery porn" you mentioned resonated with me. I've watched only a couple trailers and I actually noticed the violence more so than I did in a game like Mortal Kombat: people being hanged all over the place, throats slowly being cut etc. it's just a bit too much sometimes.

As each generation goes by, I find myself playing less and less games. When I think back to the Xbox 360, there was one point I had 20+ games simultaneously of all different genres. I played racing games like Project Gotham and Midnight Club, Conflict: Desert Storm, Ghost Recon, wrestling games, hockey games, basketball games, Tenchu and other random games I used to pick up in store without having any prior knowledge of.

Now, everything does seem to have a major bias towards realism and being AAA. There seems to be no quality arcade racing game aside from Need for Speed, games like Tenchu don't really exist anymore especially when you take into account the cooperative element. Wrestling games just look clunky and not fun to play and the only coop tactical shooters I can think of are The Division and the latest Ghost Recon games which both fall into the overused open world design and the latter just being absolutely terrible.

I enjoyed the likes of God of War, Horizon etc. but my funnest moments this generation have come from Rocket League, Aragami (not the best game but it is coop and reminds me of Tenchu) and doing a PES Master League with my brother through share play (but even then, having the ability to play Master League with a friend should be a feature and not workaround but it seems like some developers don't actually play the games themselves).

I don't see why it would change but I would love to see more quality games that are more focused on fun in the next generation.

Context obviously does matter. I mean it is the end of the world and everyone has become savages so obviously it's gonna be pretty bleak and grim and said violence will reflect that. Whereas Mortal Kombat obviously goes for over the top focusing less on suffering and more on brutality almost for comedic sake. I get what you mean, I mean I generally like disturbing and violent films but after 17 hours of this, it got to the point where I got bored. And it wasn't because I was disturbed by the violence, it was more just the same gameplay loop over and over again for 17 hours with only a couple of breaks here and there into lighter territory. For instance, there is a wonderful scene between Joel and Ellie in a museum that is really one of the best moments in the game, but then you're overran with hours of repetitive slicing and dicing and it just grows tiring very quickly. It wants you to feel something about the violence, but also kind of wants you to revel in it a little bit. Hence, it wants to eat its cake and have it too.

I will say I felt nothing about killing the NPC's in this game. Why would I? They're out to kill me without remorse. It's kill or be killed. So even that fails miserably when it tries to present its perspectives.

I totally agree in some ways. I still play games very often but I find myself growing more and more tired of how samey everything is becoming. Take Days Gone for example. It really is just open world Last of Us but it feels like it has very little identity of its own. The new God of War felt more like it was trying to be Last of Us then it was God of War. I know I'm in a minority but I hated that game because it felt like a complete betrayal of what I loved about the original series.

I'm with you. I want more creative endeavours. I want "fun" to stop being a naughty word as we push more and more into feel bad territory.

Hence why I find myself playing Tekken 7 online more and more over everything else these days...because it's just fun and I get more and more joy out of learning how to play over being lectured for 20 hours or so.

The best one is next :) Mass Effect 2 is class
You are the one that told me I can play it with joystick, thanks bro!

And yeah I think so, I'm already picked my galactic waifu. Tali plz marry me

Haha nice.

I think it kick things properly into gear right from the offset, it gets rid of some of the annoyances from the first one and is just generally better.

Should I buy 3 and Andromeda too? Bc they are kinda expenssive

I know that people didnt like the end of 3 but still worth it?

And Andromeda and the face animation?, but taking that off the score (I suppose patchs and mods fixed that) is it worth it?

3 is worth is despite the ending.

Andromedia isn't as bad as some will have you believe.

Is the story of Andromeda finished? Will there be a new one? Mass effect Andromeda 2?

Played Assetto Corsa over some weeks with VR + haptic seat + steering wheel (+ H-shifter)

I think it's the right game that sums up how amazing the PC community can be.

Game with all DLCs: 21 tracks, 178 cars, no magic weather, no night, exclusive car races, basic launcher

Game with mods: 2000 tracks and 10 000 cars (about), magic weather, real-time night transition, rally, karting, nascar, F1, drift, MMO open worlds, a complete launcher with tons of settings and auto-settings.

Works with Crewchef, an app where you can heard your radio chief from the stands, but you can also talk to him if you have a mic.

There's even a traffic mod so you can get the Initial D/Tokyo Highway Challenge feel:

It's amazing to think it's relatively an old game (2014) but that the best is yet to come. Assetto Corsa vanilla was already a great game with the finest gameplay you can find in simulators but modding has transcended it the same way they did with rFactor if not further.

Near about refinished Deadly Premonition, just have a few more side stuff to collect if I really feel like it, with a little less than 3 weeks to go for the sequel.

Not sure what I’ll play next at this point, if I take any time between these two games. I did start up Fitness Boxing again, though very minimally. Might just focus more on my project again.

No it's not. Whether they do or not is up in the air somewhat.

There's been talk of a new mass effect game for a while now, either Andromedia 2 or a totally new story. I do think Andromedia gets an unfair amount of crap, sure it's not the greatest but its enjoyable

Damn it's too good, I'm loving it. Gunplay it's much better (i found the 1 super rough), graphics are so better (this one looks more closer to 2015 than to 2005) and I'm just recruiting the crew, didnt even start completely.

Just finished trails cold steel 3 after 146 hours. After debating which jrpg in my backlog to go persona5 royale or persona4 golden I decided to go with persona5.

I am a simple man and I can only play one jrpg at a time.

The Last of Us Part II -- Played for 17 hours straight. Game is shit! I have thoughts but they will wait for another day, but man, that story. That story is complete and utter dogshit!

Critics can call it a masterpiece all they want but I will call it what it really is; Shit.
I heard its receiving quite a backlash from metacritic users. But yeah I agree on critics alawys being too biased on big names or "cinematic" experiences. I think part of the reason is to not upset too much big publishers no the toxic fandom games can have.

this is a pretty good video which explains why metacritic can ruin games.
(good metacritic reviews often = bonuses for workers)

I wanna marry a quarian in real life

Maybe if I get a bucket and a piece of glass I could...

I've been playin' me some Super Meat Boy on the PS4. Has anyone here 100%'d it?

Even the PS4 controller is better than using a Macbook keyboard I used in years past. I miss the original music, but the new soundtrack (compiled for legal reasons) also slaps.

Currently, I'm in the warp zone where you unlock The Kid (he's the first case of the game giving me true trouble). Ironically, I've effectively bricked my PS4: as I'm 2/3 through his tutorial, I'm having too much trouble to beat it, but I don't want to close the app and have to start over again :giggle:

Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath (PS4) -- I grabbed the new DLC yesterday. Been checking out the Aftermath story. Not bad. I haven't played Kombat 11 since I platinumed it last year after it first came out, so a bit of readjusting was in order.

Burnout Paradise (Switch) -- Grabbed the Switch version on the weekend. Played a little bit of it on the Switch Lite over the weekend. Pretty decent port all things considered. Runs at a steady 60fps. I was afraid it was gonna be BS to play on the Lite with the lower resolution and all (mostly because of the draw distance and that game being so reliant on spotting oncoming traffic from a distance) but I've got to say, holds up pretty decently so far. I love Paradise, I will gladly play this game on any platform and to have a portable version is awesome.

Outrun (Switch) -- The SEGA Ages edition. Spent a couple hours lazing in the couch playing Outrun while listening to music. Was nice and relaxing.

I also dabbled into installing Custom Firmware on the PS3. I did it mostly to unlock the Blu Ray region code as I still use my PS3 mainly for watching Blu Rays and the occasional Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Fighter 5 or Persona 4 Arena. I have a stack of Criterion DVDs and Blu Rays that I can't watch natively due to region code locking (I can rip them with Make MKV on PC but I like playing stuff natively off disc at times) so I decided it was time to go the custom firmware route and unlock those region protected drives and put them to full use. Also dabbled in a bit Retroarch on the PS3 and played a little Donkey Kong Country through the SNES core.
