General RGG Discussion

they are showing live gameplay here right now

so one question already answered. your group or party follows you in realtime
so they dont just spawn in fights

Combat is very fast. Choose your action > animation, next character > action > animation
This all takes about 2-5 five seconds between every character / enemy, there is no big pause,
so i dont see a big difference in the speed when you compare it to the other games

They showed a completely new trailer on the Sega stage with new mini games, combat, character outfits,
the new city and more, sadly its not on Youtube yet.

Edit - here it is

So MANY call backs in that trailer.

I saw the Yankees from 0. I saw Onomichi. I saw the Be My Baby guys. Hell, I even saw the bloody Chicken (Nugget) from Yakuza 0.

That was great!

Bring on Kart Racing! It looked like there was an exam at one point in that trailer that you were filling out? I wonder what that’s about?

The cinema rhythm game looks cool.

Doesn’t seem to be any new arcade games though. I saw Virtua Fighter 2 and 5. (Sega stop teasing us and make VF6 already). I saw Space Harrier. I saw what looked to be Hang On. I saw Outrun. I saw Space Harrier. But yeah, nothing new Arcade wise by the looks of it. That’s a shame. I kind of wanted something new ported over. Like give us a Sega Rally or Daytona USA in Club Sega.

As for the combat? I think it looks cool. I’m still very much in. I like what I see here.

This will be a Day One import. Without question.

Loved what I saw. Job system looks fun, heat moves look hilarious, story looks very interesting and I already like Ichiban's crew. Only minus points is reused Sega arcade games and Pachislot machines because I don't really like slots (but they LOOK good at least. Cheat items can make them fun).

Maybe its because I just finished Yakuza 5, and because it took me so long, but I'm totally down for a change in combat, as I really like that they seem to have the "team" aspect as a core thing - they follow you, participate in more mini games etc. I just like that idea alongside them fighting with you in combat. I'm certainly willing to give it a try and probably end up enjoying it loads, as the team have managed to make so many great games in the past.

So no new Arcade games and lot of recycling plus the change in mechanics...

I am not sold on the game yet. It looks great, and the Story seems interesting. It has the usual Yakuza vibe and I really love the Yakuza word, but I am still not sure what to think About the Combat System. They Combat System could turn me of the game. But it is too early to judge it yet. Without playing it for myself I cannot really say if I am going to like it or not.

New arcade games could still in theory be announced, we didn't know about all of Judge Eyes right off the bat. But the "recycling" point seems like a strange one to highlight in this game, when all previous Yakuza games were all recycling loads of previous content, not least Kamurocho itself while this game actually has a brand new city (and battle system, but that's something else entirely), and the city itself really does seem pretty damn big going by some of the map pics posted. If anything, its one of the least recycled Yakuza games released lately, certainly less so than Judge Eyes and Kiwami 2 (though that's not fair, what with K2 being a remake).
Plus they showed off quite a few new activities - carting, some sort of test, the cinema stuff, some sort of talent show? not to mention a greater focus on interacting with your team outside of combat and plot.

The worst case of Recycling I've seen in the series is with Kiwami 2, forcing the Cabaret Mini-game into it. I didn't even touch that because I felt it was really one of the definitive features of Yakuza 0, so in that instance it rally annoyed me.

As for what we've seen in the trailer... it all looks really promising! Can't believe they're doing Go-Karting! This might be one I see through to completion - It even has weapon projectiles! It's Crazy & I love it!

Cabaret in Kiwami 2 (while definitely an excellent point on blatant recycling) is actually worth doing, as the story itself is a blast. I personally preferred how FOTNS handled the club in terms of gameplay as its different enough, though a much weaker story.

0:22-0:49 is pure awesomesauce! :D I'm going to LOVE combat in this game!

And Kart racing looks brilliant as well, I can't wait! :D :D

Rewatching the trailer again (now in English) and this must be the first time in the series we get a legit female party member/protagonist that isn't AI controlled exclusively (Karou) and a female villain - the leader of the Korean mafia is a chick, looks badass as well. So yeah, that's great :) Looking at the plot vid, basically its a three way gang war between the triads, Korean mafia and one Yakuza family. With you stuck in the middle! Again, absolutely no reference of Kamurocho or Tojo/Omi outside of the intro so I really do wonder if Kamurocho basically plays 0 part in this game at all? So many questions....

i love that new introduction / feature trailer
and the fighting gameplay in the two long gameplay livestreams looked good.
its nowhere near as slow as people think when they hear turn based combat.
so far i have no negative criticism - the only thing i noticed is that the framerate wasnt very stable in the gameplay livestreams,
there were some heavy drops where it looked like the game was running with 20 fps.
playstation 4 hardware + overstuffed Dragon Engine maybe is a little bit too much. maybe.

I said this elsewhere: This is the first time I've been genuinely excited for a Yakuza game since 3. Glad they're changing it up because after 4, the idea of spending another 40+ hours doing the same stuff, in the same locations, was unappealing to me -- and that's with years between playing each of them. Give me something new.

As expected, this game looks great. Combat is not too slow. Turned based looks amazing. Also I think I saw a random clip somewhere where the player used an AOE and it killed all the enemies in one hit. Don’t think it was in the long gameplay demonstration cause they were explaining how the combat and class system works I think.

F-Zero Like a Dragon...

Hyped. Easily an automatic favorite turn base game. I always want to only watch the crazy moves and get caught on QTEs a lot because of being distracted haha. Cannot wait. Still need to play Yakuza 6 then Zero after Shenmue 3.

But the combat is "slow" tho. Lulz

The special heat attacks in this game are gonna be amazing... and lol at Ichiban in that cart. Something tells me he's not playing by normal rules. I think the cast of Mario Kart would be bloody pulps after a round in these carts!
