General RGG Discussion

I just started Kiwami. It's amazing how ingrained the city is in my head after playing Judgment a few months ago. First mission is heading to Le Marche and I just immediately knew where to go without looking at the map. I love that.

I'm also playing Kiwami post-game trying to get upgrades for Dragon style by beating Majima's encounters.

I've beat multiple Yakuza games in random order but not the highly praised Yakuza 0, nor 4&5. I really enjoyed 1-3 so I'm wondering if it is worth playing the rest

0 is amazing. It'll eat away at your life, though. There's so much content, especially if you're a perfectionist. :) So far I've only played Yakuza 1 (many years ago), 0, and Judgment. Now I'm trying to do the whole series in order.

Seeing Kamurocho change over the years is cool but one drawback at least for me personally is remembering where something was in one game but thinking it’s in a different one and getting all confused because of it.

I recall doing all of the special side stories for both Kiryu and Saejima in 5, don’t remember whether either Akiyama or Haruka had their own? I would assume so but it’s been so long. And I still need to finish it now it’s on PS4. But yeah, tons of stuff and despite kind of breaking the pacing I enjoyed all the hunting and racing and dancing stuff.

Oh yeah, Haruka does (all part of her idol stuff) and while many didn't like the gameplay, not only was it refreshing and a nice breather from the normal brawling, it was VERY WELL-DONE and implemented fantastically.

Handshake events were hilarious and the rivalry with... can't remember her name (started with an, "A," I think) was done tastefully and, "properly," IMO.

Akiyama had nothing of Another Drama, sadly, while Shinada had his baseball challenges and related things, which was awesome as well.

5 is brilliant!

Ryu ga Gotoku 7 is an amazing game.

Question for @danielmann861; is it worth it to level the default jobs (Hero for Ichiban, Cop for Adachi, etc.) to max or should I max out other jobs for people?

Just because I'm so used to the attacks and all that of the default jobs, they all function well in battle.

That's up to you.

For the bulk of the game, I stuck with one set of jobs for everyone.

Ichiban --> Break Dancer -- then I switched to the Chef for most of the late game before switching back to his default for the Amon fight. I ranked, Break Dancer, the Chef and default to max levels.

Nanba --> Kept him as the musician (I honestly didn't use Nanba in my party all that much)

Adachi --> Riot Police -- I kept him as Riot Police throughout the entire game as it was his strongest job. The Riot Police job has one of the most effective attacks in game.

Saeko --> I started out as Idol with her but once Dominatrix became available, I switched and maxed out Dominatrix -- Although I switched her back to Idol late game and used her as the groups healer in some of the later battles (Idol has really good healing spells so if you want to use her as the groups healer then idol is recommended...Idol has recovery and group heal properties that are strongly recommended for late game battles)

Eri -- Hostess -- I can't remember changing her job too often. I think it was mostly hostess

Kim Yong -- I had him as a host for most of the early game BUT I would strongly suggest using the Fortune Teller job with him as Fortune Teller has some decent Electricity attacks that are kinda vital with the late game bosses.

Zhao -- I stuck with his default, but much like Nanba, I didn't use him all that much in my party.

My party usually consisted of Ichiban, Adachi, Saeko and either Eri or Kim Yong.

It wasn't until the late game that I felt I really had to pay attention to the job system. For the bulk of the game, I stuck with one job for each of them and made it through just fine. But it was the late game that I started digging in and maxing out other jobs.

But yeah, it's up to you. But for the late game. I strongly suggest you at least have Idol, Riot Police and Fortune Teller either high level or maxed out as some of their attacks are pretty vital in dishing out decent damage.

My favorite job of the bunch is still either the Dominatrix or Break Dancer. Some of the Dominatrix heat moves really had me laughing out loud for whatever reason.

A bunch of heats all around are hilarious; I've had a great time discovering each one! :D

Thanks for that wonderful post btw, Dan; I will focus on the jobs you pointed out!

I do agree that Swat Team/Riot is awesome; Adachi does almost 400 attack when doing the heat where the enemy is lifted by that stun stick thingamajig AND they can even get electrocuted when it happens! Too awesome.

FINALLY made it to chapter 6 and that is a... LENGTHY dungeon lol, but with almost everyone being level 27 or higher (Saeko's at 26, Ichiban's at 28), it was beyond a breeze and I never used a single healing item or Tauriner.

Already tied up the Byte.com missions in chapter 6, so I think I'll just head into the end of the chapter and start 7, with the 50 million things to do again lol (and I figure Joon-Gi will join up at the end of this chapter, so that means a shit-ton more grinding!).

You mentioned that the underground dungeon opens up during chapter 7, Dan; is this available at the start or triggered by a substory? Either way, chomping at the bit to get some high levels! :D

I have a feeling I will be playing this game into April, which is significantly longer than any game in the series has taken me.

Up to level 18 on Ichiban Holdings and have moved into the cushy new office and I've REALLY got the hang of things now.

Dan's right; once you get Ichiban Holdings up to a certain level, you make serious coin; after every shareholder meeting, I'm making 500,000 yen (or 50 then whatever lol) and I'm seriously in good shape, not to mention that I'm not even at the top level yet!

It is a ton of fun and a very well-implemented mini-game.

Eri's not bad in battle at her default job, but I'm going to change it around.

Chapter 7 starts with a shit-ton of Byte Quests, Substories, etc.; there is still, A TON to do! :D

Yeap, and if you try grinding for the earn 10 billion in company funds trophy then you'll have a shit ton of spare change to go along with it by the end of that trophy ;)

No more scabbing loose change from the vending machines for Ichiban ;) (Although I was still doing that come the end of my playthrough)

Man, that game is so good. Really looking forward to more info about the Western Release of it. I will gladly spend another 100 hours with it when it comes out in the West.

I'm still looking at every vending machine as well lol.

Got the 10 Billion trophy and was able to amass over 5300(symbol)0000 yen, so I promptly upgraded the Roman Factory, fully.

Sitting pretty now, cash-wise and enjoying my time doing the dungeon.

Saw the homeless guys (bunch of them, actually) and indeed, they all friggin' run away! And I haven't gotten the move for Eri yet (I think) that gets them in 1/2 hits, so I'm just going to grind and grind, to get her to that level.

Apparently, Saeko has a move that gets them in 1/2 hits as well, but I can't figure out which one.

The VERY first one I ran into, got him down to 3 or less hits, then he ran away

Anyways, have completed all of the Byte.com, substories and all other side things in chapter 7, just looking to grind a bit more and then move on to chapter 8! (Ichiban is at level 31, btw)

Had no idea that the MAX level for Jobs is *30* :( Ugh, more grinding indeed (and I guess, anyways, I will need to get Ichiban up to 70 for the trophy...).

Good that there is the re-spawning homeless guy at 35, right at the end of the Yokohama dungeon; can spam that battle a bunch of times.

Anyways, Ichiban (and Adachi) are up to level 35, Saeko at 34 and Eri 33; have done about half of the substories in Chapter 9 and have taken care of all the Byte.com fights, for now (have a bunch of fetch quests to do, but having trouble finding some of the items; will need to use the guides a bit more closely).

I truly hope people don't skip out on this because of the turn-based gameplay; yes everything can be a grind if you make it that way, but everything is so much fun and the game is incredible!

I'm enjoying Kiwami, but it's a real buzzkill seeing those VF cabs and not being able to play them. The bikini babe bug game doesn't compare... I can't even remember if the first Yakuza had arcades. My brain's totally rusty. For some reason I remembered the entire funeral sequence vividly as if 15 years hadn't passed. Are the cutscenes new or are they reusing the old cutscenes? They look a bit old school to me.

Everything was apparently the old game, just updated to PS3 graphics. The only additions were the minigames and fighting styles.

Mushi King is so awesome, I love the different take on Rock/Paper/Scissors; when I went to Joypolis in Tokyo, I spent a good 30-45 minutes just playing that (much to my wife's dismay lol); it was great.

Don't believe the games were there, but I honestly don't remember.

Huzzah! Finally a breakthrough on the Homeless front! :D

So, I got SUPER lucky and eliminated the level 30 guy on the 2nd floor of the dungeon, as he didn't run away. Left the floor, came back, ran away. Left the floor, came back, got him again; at this point, Eri was just below level 35 and everyone else was up to 36/37. Progress through the dungeon, 'til I get to the last floor.

First 35 homeless, runs away after one round of attacks . Get to the second one on the floor and am able to defeat him- bang, Eri is at level 36! :D. Go to heal, leave the floor, come back, run away from the giant pirates (Jesus Christ, they're insane).

Eri's Lucky Punch move has unlocked and I try it right away on the respawned homeless... HOLY CRAP I CAN KILL HIM IN 1 MOVE!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

After traversing through the floor, back and forth, back and forth, everyone is now at levels 41/42, jobs are leveling up quickly (everything at 22/21/20); this should be a breeze from here on out and the grind won't be nearly as bad, considering everyone will be leveling up quite a bit and becoming more powerful (making fights quicker and more efficient) :D

Also,
The Kill SAT is SO DAMN AMAZING!!!! AND HILARIOUS! :D:D:D

This game is just so awesome; if people didn't believe in RGG Studios for making the call for changing up the gameplay and all that, all I can say is the proof is in the pudding: this is VERY close to being the best game in the series.

Congratulations, you found the farming area I was talking about a few pages back :D That's where I farmed up to level 50 or so.

Yeah, Eri's Lucky Punch and Kim Yong-Soo's (or Han look alike) gun attack were the two most effective moves against the homeless men. Kim's gun attack takes off at least 3 quarters of their health guaranteed where as Eri's lucky punch can sometimes finish them off in one hit and other times fail and only dish out only one point of punishment.

It's still a bit of a shame to me that the homeless men are the only enemy that dish out decent XP. But it is the most effective way to level up...at least until you get back to Kamurocho. The homeless men in the Kamurocho dungeon give you quite a deal more in the way of XP.

Yeah, it's pretty close to being up top for me as well. The story is top notch as well. I really like Ichiban. As much as I love Kiryu and Kiryu will always be one of my favourite video game protags ever. It's so damn refreshing to play as someone a little unhinged like Ichiban. Well maybe not as unhinged as Majima but still, a little more unhinged than Kiryu ever was :D

I really can't wait for the Western Version to come out so I can spend another 100 hours with it.

Indeed; I've now gotten everyone up to 60+ level and maxed out the jobs, with that area. I saved just before going back in and will take a stab at leveling up the other jobs that need it, but since the last 7 levels or so literally take hours, I'll get them up to a certain point and then tackle the homeless in the Kamurocho dungeon, as I read they give out ALMOST DOUBLE what the guys in Yokohama give out. Not to mention, also haven't added any further characters yet, so I want to level up the people I may use.

Still, while it was long, it was, again, super easy and I've knocked out quite a few trophies as well (jobs, levels).

So yes, today will be a few more hours of grinding and then I'll probably continue on the story.

BTW, anyone know Sega Lord X? I started to like the guy less and less as time went on (the best/most informative video he released was the very first one I saw, been completely downhill from there), but I'll start another thread tomorrow on him.

Anyways, he did a video of, "Affordable games you can buy while locked inside your house for Coronavirus (which I'm NOT locking myself inside, but whatever)," and he got to Yakuza 0. Apart from giving the most generic of descriptions for the game, his footage was literally the first 5 minutes of both cutscenes and gameplay, he said that the game is like Grand Theft Auto, in that you can run around and do what you want (which we know to be false) AND, he said that the voice acting is, "pretty terrible."

The rage I feel is real.

I am only on Episode 4 but I am not liking it. I mean, it is a good game, but I expected something more into the serial killer stuff and less Yakuza like in terms of plot. I am playing it, I will finish it but unless the plot make some great plot twist the start for me is like Yakuza Lite
