Random Shenmue III Thoughts

Maybe there will be a cinematic camera for when moves are done ?

I have the feeling they are aiming for a more cinematic style of fighting.
So it would make sense that there would be special camera movement,
when fighting, according to the move that is done.

But, I think this does not prevent the usual camera position, outside of battle.

For fighting the cinematic camera is good.

For walking around, the camera behind Ryo makes it feel like I am playing as him, When it's to the side if feels like your controlling a drone with a camera on it following Ryo about.

Do we know if the game camera will still be directly behind Ryo so he is in the middle of the screen? and not that awful floating over the shoulder camera.
Are you talking about the awful camera in Shenmue II that seemingly only happens in Beverly Hills Wharf fights, as well as in the Zhouhong Kong (One Eyed Man) fight in Kowloon? That is the only thing I genuinely don't like about the games.

I don't mind it at all. I always learn and practive moves as if RE1-CV controls where forward is whichever direction faced, so i acclimate myself with any and every angle possible to pull off moves.

I'm starting to think maybe they won't show Shenmue 3 this year at Gamescom. Last year they announce their present at the show at least one month in advance if I remember correctly, so that the people could book flys to attend the event and see Yu Suzuki there signing autographs. We are only two weeks away from the event and they haven't confirmed their presence yet, unless it's a surprise or this year Suzuki won't have a meet and greet at the event.

I think it's different this time. They did the meet and greet as a response to demand from fans who immediately booked to go out once they knew Shenmue 3 would be there.

This time with deep silver a year into their involvement things are much more professional. If anything is seen it will be done via press releases etc. It's become a much more traditional route of development and interaction. While it started as a Kickstarter it's evolved into a fully blown project.

I'm hopeful but we won't get wind of much until the week of it. Also we may (I'm guessing) get a kickstarter update around August 13th with the last of the surveys going out and the slacker closing. They may mention something there.

I've never had a problem with any of those. I was talking about the camera in games like the new Tomb Raider games, any time I want to walk on top of something or up something I keep missing it because Lara is off centre.

I think it is slightly irrelevant to compare both character as the context used are very different.

However, if the video (from which the SH3 character picture comes from) is indicative of the art direction,
then, the SH3 character appear a lot more lively.
The video had animations with the dialog and the character are not just standing tall in SH1&2.

My opinion is only entitled to me, but I think SH3 might have more lively side characters,
from the fact the games had a will to have them behave more naturally than most games.

By that, I mean that the graphical details might be slightly less subtle than in some other games,
but I have good hope that we are going to see more realistic/lively behaviours.
(People moving, waving arms and hands around as they speak, maybe blinking eyes and tilting faces.)

We still need a proper gameplay video to check this hypothesis.
But, my bet is on the dev team putting effort into having the character act their part,
instead of having their model be very finely detailed.

Wow. That's got to be the worst possible example of Yakuza character animation. You've got to view the proper story cutscenes to see the game's strength in character animation.

The purpose of the example was to highlight two non primary young females characters. I could have used a video of Haruka, but more detail would have been put into her character modelling and animation, therefore it would have been an unfair comparison.

If we're going to see Shenmue 3 at Gamescom, it should be announced by Deep Silver.
I asked them about Shenmue 3 on Twitter and they said to stay tuned cause they'll announce their line-up soon.
Let's hope to see Shenmue 3 amoung their other titles!
Only 13 days to go... For Shenmue 1 & 2 and for Gamescom! Exciting!!

im not into company profits / how much games make bla bla but would anyone have a rough idea / be able to guess how much shenmue 3 will make, profit wise..and will it be enough to fund the next game or will that probably go to another kickstarter(?)

Don't know how will they need, but example raw figures, at a 60$/€ price per retail copy X 500.000 copies raw revenues 30.000.000, you have to split that between investors, distributors (Shibuya got a part, Deep Silver also, etc) , so it depends on the final Shenmue III cost

so safe to say shenmue 4 is good(?)

I think Cedric talked about this and said 1 million copies would secure Shenmue 4
IIRC he said that before Deep Silver's investment. How much bearing that has on what it needs to sell, I don't know.
