Random Shenmue III Thoughts

Keep expectations low and then if anything happens then great

Yeah, he probably just means he wants to meet fans. Doesn't mean it will appear at the show.

The most *logical* thing would be to show III amidst the release of SI+II and the conclusion of A Gamer's Journey, but probably not going to happen.

It is worth saying that if Deep Silver + Sony are handling the promotion that Yu doesn't have to be present himself for the game to be shown.

He could appear in a video prior to the trailer, giving an update and saying he stayed behind to continue working on the game.

We will see in a few days time.

Yeah, sadly, it seems like Shenmue III will not be making an appearance. I think fans should stop speculating as it's clear it just isn't happening (and if I'm wrong, then it's a great surprise!).

Shenmue's never really had a proper presence at Gamescom. It was only supposed to be for the games media last year. They just set up a last minute meet & greet when they realised how many people were coming because of the announcement.

I still feel like an update with new material isn't off the table this month.

So... what is that?

It's probably nothing, but for any fans that want to cling to a bit of hope that we might see something, I responded to Cedric with "Would be good to see Shenmue 3 there... And if not, soon in an update. Need to see gameplay..." and he 'liked' my tweet. Maybe a sign, or maybe him just showing that he understands we want to see something soon, or maybe it's nothing at all and he just likes any tweets people send him about Shenmue 3. Who knows? I do think we have some great updates to come this year, regardless of whether the game shows up at an event or not :)

I feel like the "surprise" aspect of game reveals is getting kind of annoying. I'd like to just know what to expect in advance of big events.

I had a random thought (albeit a Shenmue I and not Shenmue III thought) today while thinking about the re-release...

What were they thinking when only allowing a true save in Ryo's room? The "Resume" feature just as easily could have been a "Save anywhere" feature, could it not?

This actually impeded my first attempt at a play-through, because my copy would freeze randomly on loading screens. If I was playing off a resume file, which deletes itself after loading, it could really set me back.... I ended up casting the game aside for some time because of it, before finding it in my closet the summer of 03 and trying again - with luck, I think the game only froze on me once and after I got past Disc 1, I was fine.

They were really wise to implement a 'save anywhere' and 'wait' feature in Shenmue II.

Well, Shenmue I came out in 2000, and was developed on the Saturn, during an era on consoles where there were still things like save points on a lot of games. Even just a couple years later, save anywhere pretty much became the gold standard in any game.

Shenmue 3 will be a good game for fans regardless of how bad it objectively is compared to modern games. It would be quite a feat to make old time fans hate it!

I think its really inspiring that Ryo, Shenhua and Lan Di have kept up their skincare routines for 20 years. That is just A+ moisturising effort in my book!

Despite what Karl Pilkington says, the Chinese really don't seem to age very badly at all!

Ok, so, I need to write down my thoughts about :
"Shenhua's model from the last trailer and resulting wondering"
It is a little messy, but maybe there can be something to get out of that.
(Posting it here, because I think this discussion goes beyond the scope of the last trailer)

I have said in the thread about the gamescom event that :
"I still don't like Shenhua having earrings."
First I was thinking it is from my personal opinion that,
earrings are just ruining people's earlobes, and do not make them prettier.
But, now, I think my feeling also comes from the character's characterisation in SH2.

So, yes, SH2-Shenhua is something of a "forest dweller".
So, she would, as shown in SH2 wear clothes suitable for roaming the woods.
(trousers and sleeved-top that are easy to move in + a trusty dress over them)

Now, trailer-Shenhua has those "looking-brand-new" embroiled clothes and jewelery.
They don't seems like impractical clothes.
Yet, they are not the most indicated for walking the woods.
(Scratches would ruin the clothes and earrings are easy to get caught in foliage and branches.)

So, this would really point to Shenhua dressing up to go to the city, at some point.
Now, we haven't really see a Shenhua dress-up similar to SH2's ending.
Does it means, this clothing is still not finished ?
If a SH2-like clothing is actually, not finished, is it because of the long dress ?

Now, I am wondering : Can the engine used, render dresses properly ?
And, if it is a complicated thing, what about Niao-Sun's red dress ?

In the end, I am now wondering about how clothes movement will be rendered.
At worst, Ryo's Jacket may "flow" not better than in SH1&2.

Basically, yes, the "Shenhua prophecy" trailer showed good models,
but it brought the question of how good flowing elements (hair/clothes) will be.

I dreamed Last night of shenmue 3 . Maybe it was All the playing the re-releases . But I dreamed one of the missions in shenmue 3 is to stop landi's men stealing fish and selling or selling illegal fish. You have to sneak into building similar to the warehouse in shenmue 1 and fight. Cant remember much else.

similar to the picture above accept it was larger and with walls but the fish were in like water trenches with walkways inbetween. Think swimming pool but with only strips of water.

The Kickstarter Slacker Backer campaign is ending in just a few days.

I wonder if we will get any updated screenshots on September 1 once it’s all over. I’m surprised that we only received a trailer update for Gamescom. Normally trailers are accompanied with a host of new screenshots.

We can hope. It would be a nice way to close off the crowd funding for sure.
