Random Shenmue III Thoughts

All this hype has got me thinking about the trailer(s) that will be released before launch, and how I've assumed for a while there would be a gameplay trailer, showcasing the variety of stuff you do in the game, and a more traditional "cinematic" trailer, that focusses on storytelling and excitement. If that's the case (and it may not be), I don't think I want to see a cinematic trailer at all. I'm scared they'll throw in mid-late game cutscenes and I just can't deal with those spoilers!

How much do you guys think YSNet can accomplish with S3 in terms of polishing animations over the next few months?
Do remember that Spaghetti somehow dated the March trailer as being from January.

I think it depends on what they consider finished or not. If their goal is just automatic lip sync based on the volume of audio coming out of the characters, then some people are going to be disappointed. But we know the game is "done" from a standpoint of everything being in there, so at this point they could have a few staff members dedicated to manually improving cutscenes and that could go a long way.

I think we'll see some refinements, and some will be satisfied while others will not.

Not much. There's like 2 months left before it's supposed to be gold ?
Late July is what I'd assume for going gold, gives about five weeks for manufacturing which is normal.

To the question at hand, it depends what other work there is to do. The Famitsu interview indicated Yu wanted to do more with the animations in the time they've got left before release, so yeah, there will probably be touch ups.

I dated the MAGIC screens because of the metadata. Unfortunately no way of telling for sure with the trailer without the original file, and even then it might just give me a final render date at best.

However!

I think it's reasonable to assume the footage for the trailer was captured from the same build, because they may as well just do that stuff in one go instead of piecemeal. Plus, by the time Cedric announced the trailer in early Feb it sounded like he'd already seen a cut or was at least aware of its content, which would line up with the screens/footage being captured from a mid-late January build.

Well most importantly it depends on how old are the latest footage and screens we got. I doubt they were taking a week before they were shown but still.

Also more specifically Yu Suzuki said about the facial animations. So there's hope we see the last touch needed. But I wouldn't have much hope here. Expecting what we got in the Magic 2019 trailer is enough. Better is a bonus.

I've got faith they can keep pushing it right up until they have to go to manufacturing.

When you look at the MAGIC trailer there are high points and low points, and probably by the end of development those lower points will have been lifted to a more consistent level. That's all I can really ask for, and they'll probably achieve it.

What points did you think were high and low spags?

Yes that is a good question. I am also curious about the answer. I think he wants to say some points of the trailer looked better than other. Maybe they were using diferent builds in the same trailer?

Personally I think one of the low points from the recent trailer is when that master is shaking that stick at Ryo. The speed is off, almost as if his motions have been sped up.

Also, I think work needs to be done on the eyes as Ryo and Shenhua always seem to be looking down.
