Random Shenmue Thoughts

Completely freaking off topic. After 60 hours of pain and suffering, I finally got through game one of Ancestors. I'm gonna do Shenmue full time now. I gotta say I'm glad I've found something else as grand to look forward to. I wish those French Canooks would hurry up and show at least some pics of game 2. Man oh man. They somehow captured how it felt to be pre historic proto humans so right, it's crazy. Eye, ear and brain conquer all. Literally all. What a ride!

Amazing, and true. They've made many mistakes in the first one though. Even though, yes I use the time given to train moves, and you do need the time. It still turns off thousands that you can't freaking go on with the story at will. That yopu must watch the clock with no optional wait button. He thinks he needs S3 to be faster now. I say he needed S1 to be tested by the average Joe's then too. Not just his beta testers. I'm still glad he tried something radically new, and it's finally getting a part 3. He needed to motion capture a person walking for both 1 and 2 not just martial arts. Man oh man, replaying 1 after the demo of the 3rd its so clear. I don't remember other games of the era with chars moving so unnaturally. Running looks fine in 1 though.

I hope the 3rd gets a lot of new fans. So much is drastically improved. They need to have all Shenmues he planned. I can't wait these few days.
 
ive just started the kaloon part of s2 so no way im gonna be able to start S3 if it comes in the post today.

Just beat disc 3 of S2. Off to Guilin tomorrow and then.....:love:
I'm surprised with how well I was able to time my run-through of the games to finish at exactly the right time.

Other observations:
・The fights were all significantly easier than I remembered. I must have not been properly utilizing parry back in the day.
・I'm gonna go into Guilin with more than $8000. Definitely a record high for me.
 
from the opening point of kowloon in shenmue 2, how long does it roughly take to get to the end of the game?
 
According to my Chinese co-workers, Yellow is the, "Royal," colour of China; only the house of the Emperor/ruler could wear clothes with that colour on it.

I *think* I get the symbolism there lol, but, "head," is still a touch ambiguous...

I always thought in Asian countries it was a mild, playfully pejorative term for blond foreigners, based on this scene in Seven Years in Tibet:

Doesn't really make sense in the context of Shenmue, though. But it was a movie I watched quite a few times during early Shenmue 2 playthroughs, so the two are linked together in my brain.

I only know Japanese, not Chinese, but judging by the characters the head in yellow head probably means something like heaven or the sky. yellow head = 黄天 for reference
 
I've just played the end of Shenmue 2 from my save. Too dang tired. And the 3rd won't be there till tomorrow at 8 am. So I'll be at work. Just watched Yu Suzuki's thank you video. I hope all goes well with this Shenmue 3 launch.
