A Gamer's Journey (Shenmue Documentary) goes to Kickstarter

〜晶の章〜 (Chapter of Akira)
THE LEGEND OF AKIRA
Also confirms that they did interview Ryan Payton, which was a notable absence in the initial list. (But I think he was in one of their photos from December; also still think he's the Dice Dude example person)

Is the documentary going to be distributed through iTunes as well? That's how I buy most of my movies/ documentaries.

Why not extend the documentary from 90min to 2 hours if there's so much YSnet interview material? Really hope they also present the cuts as an extra feature, too.

A delay? Sick of it. The next episode of my podcast will be VERY interesting. Tune in.

bahahaha, sorry, i love the podcast, but too perfect...!

Looking forward to the finished article. I'm going for a Shenmue 20th anniversary release maybe?

Because they're trying to appeal to a general audience, not just fans of Shenmue. 2 hours is considered too long for a general audience.

The kickstarter description already confirms that bonus content that wouldn't fit in the main documentary runtime will be included on the disc, and the very first stretch goal that they did reach includes uncut interviews.

Eh... there are great documentaries in excess of 90 minutes, I wouldn't say a longer running time is too alienating. If the story is told well and is captivating enough, people will invest their time regardless.

It's good to have a ballpark length to aim for, though. Helps keep you focused, and hopefully a bit more critical/less precious about what makes it into a final edit.

Isn't there supposed to be two documentaries with that KS goal hit?

It's a documentary... about a video game... a niche video game from 20 years ago...

There is nothing general about this audience...

I don't believe so... haven't had an update in awhile either. Homies are busy at work it seems...

No slacker backer campaign for us. We thought about it, but it would have introduced some extra steps when it came to backer fulfillment and shipping, and we didn't want to run the risk of making any mistakes and accidentally screwing people over. That doesn't mean we wont have a bunch of copies left over , though, so an option will be available for people to get a physical copy if they would like once all is said and done.

Trying to do a once a month update but I know Im about a week behind :) Might try and get one out this weekend.

Homies are busy :tired: Well, this one is. The assembly editing is pretty much all on me until we get closer to a story cut, then I can leverage the work load a little bit. Once it gets into the final stages of post production I'll be able to hand to off entirely to our Colourist/Sound Mixing guru while I catch up on some much needed video game time ?

Two huge regrets of mine are not backing your documentary or the Dreamcast Collected Works. Damn budget and adulting. Hoping to grab both of them after release, though!

We have to wait until after August 27th. YsNet did us a huge solid by giving us what we need to create this and allowing us to talk to various creatives involved in the project, but we are still very much a separate entity with no official affiliation with their team. Because of this, we will be launching sometime after August 27th once Shenmue 3 has had a chance to do its thing in the public eye.

It would have been cool to have the doc act as some sort of hype builder leading up to the release of Shenmue 3 but thats not the case. Being able to play some sort of role in the promotion of Shenmue 3 would have been the dream. I think ultimately the films place in the whole Shenmue-sphere is to be something the fans can be proud of....something that reflects the long wait between Shenmue 2 and 3. And for the non-fans of the game perhaps it will finally answer the question "Why do these people love Shenmue and why the heck is it so special"

Very disappointing but also very understandable. I await whilst praying...
