Big Merry Cruise DLC releases on March 17th

I literally put my fingers on where the wheel would stop while trying to spin with the same strength. Unless the meter has about two hundred different spots regarding to wheel speed, it is kind of random. Like, if I spin the wheel four times on the lowest block on the meter, the number of times the wheel will soon around will be random. It may go 3.75, then 4.2, then 3.8, then 4. Ridiculous.
I could be wrong, but it felt as though whether or not the indicator was moving up or down when it reached a point had a an impact on spin strength, although it’s possible that I was just better at hitting the same spots consistently when using the momentum/direction of the indicator for timing.

So I just did a test after resetting with 20 tickets probably ten times on the easiest difficulty.

I lined up "bonus" as close as I could to the top light, of which the wheel has 44 of. I always had the white section lined up, just maybe not always the word itself. So the numbers below, to be extremely liberal, have a margin of error of 2 or so.

So I spun, lined bonus up, then pressed "options" to quit the game. This leaves the game exactly where it was when you pressed it. Doing this, I lined up "bonus" each time, and then spun the next turn. Counted the lights it went, and repeated ten times. I used the lowest spin box on the meter every time. Here are the lights where the "b" in "bonus" ended up each time:

21
33.5
26
14
19
30
33
31
24.5

I lost my last number. So nine spins it is.

So the light can travel anywhere from 14 to 33.5 lights on the same power spin. Either this wheel is massively broken, or the power meter is the most finely tuned thing in gaming history, and a millimeter's change means a huge change in power.

Finally got the doll after probably 200-250 spins in total. After I started looking away and playing on my phone and randomly pressing X

Where is Shi Baolin? I won the figurine but need to give it to him. Where is he?

EDIT - nvm I found him standing by the plates of food

Where is the fat kid storyline that everyone's referring to? All I got was the guy/oldman about the sick sister. Completed that. How do I activate the fat kid one?

It's a lot of trial and error to get to a point where it seems like you can get some consistency. I'm fairly certain it's not completely random, though. It seems like it modifies the input value with a random variable term. At least, I played the DLC over two sittings, and I felt like I was getting slightly different results the second night. I guess I'm assuming the game sets a seed value on application launch, though. It also felt like hitting the button in the same place on the bar, but on different cycles, changed the result a bit, but I'm not certain of that.

How do I trigger the fat kid quest? I've beaten the little sister quest, went to sleep and came back on the boat.

Where is the fat kid?

Got it triggered. Went there on May the 4th, 1987 (Monday). It didn't trigger for a couple of days before. Is it somehow tied to the date or weekday?

When I first installed Big Merry Cruise I went into Shenmue III without the popup telling you its been added, and wasted a few in game days waiting for the boat to appear. Restarted SIII then it was installed then it appeared next day

Gotta say, this was the best dlc for S3. Battle Rally was good, but this was better. I didn't care about the recycled mini games, but the two side quests were really great.

The fat kid was a Shenmue sidequest, finally. A bit of a ripoff of the Zhu's office segment in S2 but damn, it was fun. Also loved the creepy way Ryo kept asking around for the kid on the ship. :ROFLMAO: Skin as pink as peaches!
:ROFLMAO:

Also I was getting some serious Yakuza vibes from that first sidequest. A random nerdy-looking guy in his 20s or 30s who gets in an argument with an elderly gentleman over some weird anime figurine and asks a stranger (Ryo) to win the figurine again for him. It would have went full-on Yakuza if it had turned out that his "little sister" was actually not a sick little girl but a perfectly healthy porn star he had been stalking for the last five years. Also loved the creepy pedophile vibes this NPC was giving off. "I'm worried about all those psychos who are after my super cute little sister."

I think creepy "little sister guy", the fat brat and his father were also probably the best-written newly introduced NPCs in S3. They were credible, they looked the part, they were ridiculous in a good way. Ffs, the figurine guy was more menacing than Mr Muscles. I mean he was at least genuinely creepy.

I love this dlc. Thank Yu!

Just got all of the clothing. It's really not that bad, so long as you've finished all daily challenges and get some extra tickets thereof. I played frog racing a few times more (though it tires the wrist, it's only 3x and they're pretty fast).

Moreover, I noticed that the wheel does indeed some to have consistency with spins, and resetting the PS4 helps if you're in a bit of a rut. Also, I don't know if I'm nuts, but it seemed like holding X/A towards the end of the spin slowed it down more quickly. Did anyone else experience the same?

This DLC is nice, as it got me more into gambling; I now want to get every clothing item possible. As with the story DLC, this one adds to the whole (i.e., making the gambling grow on you).

I totally agree!

Just finished the Story Quest and Big Merry Cruise DLC's and all I can say is that both were fun,but after having finished them I started to wonder how it would have been great if the effort put into these two DLC's had been much worth if it had been used instead in the main game. The Story Quest DLC could have been used to expand the Red Snakes story line and also in Ryo's relatioship with the side characters, mainly the Shrine Maiden and Hsu the Kung Fu Panda Guy. As for the Big Merry DLC, this could have turn out to be a rearrangement of the Boat Chapter with Chai, with Ryo finishing him off once and for all.
I my opinion it was a missed oportunity that could have made Shenmue 3 a much superior experience not just in the eyes of the fans but also in the general public. The downside is that if it had been made this way it couldn't have been sold as DLC.
My final veredict is that I had fun with both DLC's but at the same time I was far from impressed with either one of them, nevertheless they are an extra source of income that might bring us closer to get Shenmue 4 and for that reason alone they are totally worth it.
