General RGG Discussion

New job types:

Idol, Riot Police (lol), Fortune Teller. And noted in the article is that certain ones get unlocked only after spending time doing social stuff (mini games, side stories) so the side stuff will be integrated nicely in the main game by the sounds of it, which I like the sound of (I can already hear the cries from people if a gambler class is locked behind Mahjong or something like that!)

According to the details, its a class only the women can use. The wording sorta suggests that there might be further party members to the four shown so far. Which make me wonder who else will join, as the current characters shown are all tied tightly to the main story. The further details I've read does indeed confirm that character friendships are strengthened mainly doing side activities together and such, with certain bond levels being locked off until a certain goal is achieved. So sounds like a mix between friendship levels in past Yakuza games (only way more dynamic) and Persona style social links.

And while it really doesn't matter story wise, as Online isn't tied to 7's cannon that much at all, but Online's first story arc just wrapped up. Its basically a big fight between team Ichiban and all four Omi Kings of Kamurocho. Then the story ends on a cliffhangar that involves Ichiban heading to Sotenbori (which as Yakuza fans will know, is Omi's home turf). Makes me wonder, with Sotenbori heavily rumored to be in 7, if the plot may take a similar twist?

I finally finished Judgment’s main story. Great game, and I only “completed” 77% of it after nearly 100 hours. I’ll probably try to get all the side missions finished and then leave it at that.

So far I’ve played Yakuza 0, Yakuza 1 and Judgment. Guess it’s time for Kiwami but these games always take months of my time...

They sure do. 5 took me from its release in June this year to mid September for me to completely 100% the game. And that was without clearing the game a second time for the plat trophy. I'd love to replay Kenzan to fight Amon, and 6 to be all ready for the release of 7 in January but I just don't want to play that much Yakuza in a short space of time. Oh well, no rush!

I'm still skeptical of 7's quality but I am still giving it a fair chance, I won't deny I really just want it to go back to normal even after it regardless of quality. I mean yeah I guess judgement basically being confirmed to be a franchise going foreword kind of alleviates it but I dont want the only leftover of the older game's style to be bogged down in the investigation minigames that were honestly the worst parts of judgement. Seriously the trailing missions might be the big thing that stops me from replaying the game again despite me rnaking judgement fairly highly on the scale of yakuza games.

Back to 7 though, I do at least look foreword to seeing more of the party, these games have an amazing way of making loveable protagonists and I do think having the main crew be comprised of people that could never be as involved as they are this time around is a huge point of interest for me. A good party dynamic id argue is one of if not the most important part of an rpg like this.

RGGS are masters of making great characters, so this is one aspect of 7 I have 0 worries about, they'll knock it out of the park I'm sure. The more I read about how it all works, the more excited I get.

Yes, Ichi’s voice actor and other staff members have talked about how he’s much different from Kiryu so it introduces new dynamics. As shared before, despite being in his early-40’s, he spent most of his adult life in prison so they talk about how his journey is a late blooming coming of age story for him.

Another great contrast they mentioned was that with kiryu, he was this highly respected and even feared figure with a few close friends, Ichiban on the other hand, is basically just some loser with no friends.

Well, Ichiban has Mitsuo, so that's... one friend. Lol. What I'm interested in seeing is how "magnetic" Ichiban's personality is. I forget which of the big bads point it out (I think it was Kurosawa) but Kiryu has this natural ability to get people to just flock to him, no matter what. Its one of many reasons why he's so revered. I wonder just how Ichiban will manage.

News to me.

Nagoshi said that there are no plans at this time to make a sequel, so not sure f it'll be a full-blown franchise or if it'll just be a one off.

he said if it sold well it'd get a sequel, and they said the game did very well a little bit ago. Its not the same as full confirmed or anything but I think its safe to expect a sequel. I just hope the sequel justifies itself cause I think 1 was so conclusive.

I personally don't see a Judge Eyes sequel as truly justified as the main character is not cheap to bring back for a sequel, so I still have doubts a sequel will come. I hope it does happen, I loved the first game.

I mean you could make that argument for yakuza 1, and then the sequel ended up outdoing it in every way, and then you could say that about kiryu for 2, until yakuza 3 came out.....and kind of ruined alot.

Uh... no? I'm talking about how Judge Eyes uses the voice and likeness of Takuya Kimura who is a really big deal in Japan. Sega couldn't/wouldn't even shell out the extra to have him sing Karaoke, so unless they had him sign a multi game deal bringing him back for a sequel won't exactly be a negligible cost. So I remain skeptical of any Yagami centric sequel until its actually announced, no matter what's said in interviews.

I really don't see how that's anything like Sega doing a sequel to Yakuza, especially when Yakuza 1 managed to sell 1mil+ in Japan alone. So even sales wise Yakuza was a much easier sequel to green light back in the day, especially when they didn't start doing all the face scan tech with more and more movie stars etc. Its why if you look at Yakuza 7 you can be sure of who's not showing up in Yakuza 8 (which is actually a pity but hopefully the story makes up for the obvious fates).

The Yakuza games are pretty much the only ones that i will always pre order because they never disappointed me.
And normally i dont pre order anything, not even the newest upcoming AAA exclusive games.
If they want to make another Judgment game why not.
It seems like Judgment was a nice success worldwide, so maybe thats already enough bonus
to get Sega and Takuya Kimura back on board. I mean now they know that they dont have to be afraid of a flop,
this quality level will find its fan base. Whatever they want to do, im fine with it.

I'll always be pestimistic over any game getting a sequel after Shenmue 2 back in the day, I don't let myself get my hopes up since I don't want to be disappointed in one never happening (much like me now just taking Shenmue 3, but not expecting 4 to ever appear). But that's more a me problem, plus when sequels do get announced, I feel more hyped because of it!

But yeah, Yakuza is a series I can easily preorder. Even the combat in 7 getting swapped round completely isn't enough to disuade me because I've seen the trailers and there's no way I won't enjoy the game, no doubt about it. I mean, I don't even think I have a Yakuza game I could call disappointing... maybe 4, but even then its only in terms of late plot and some of its bad chapters (as in chapters that are cutscenes only) but its still got tons of amazing content, great fights, an amazing end game series of fights, soundtrack etc.

dead souls and fist of the north star were kind of bad, but outside of that the series is generally pretty consistent.

No they weren't.

At worst, they are 7/10 games (personally,I give them both 8/10)m

That's not bad or even kinda bad.
