I'll do my 15 - great topic.

(I'm only specifying the console that I played on if there were different versions)

1) Shenmue (I love them both but prefer the first and with Shenmue 2 I prefer the Dreamcast version - I think my preference for the first comes with being a shafted US fan with being denied the sequel in the US and having to use a boot disc for my imported PAL version of the sequel. FU Peter Moore)
2) Jet Set Radio Future (This game is absolutely awesome, and I will admit, while it is easier than its predecessor I just find it flows better and has additional great music from Hideki Naganuma. I still hope Data Discs presses the music of JSR and JSRF to vinyl)
3) BioShock (2 is close for me as well, basically you play the first for the atmosphere and story and the second has the best gameplay)
4) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (I have been playing this since launch and NEVER get bored)
5) Batman: Arkham Asylum (This was just an awesome experience and beginning to a great franchise)
6) Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (There are so many great MGS games but this one is so enthralling)
7) Perfect Dark (N64) (I had so much fun with this with my brother and loved that it had simulants with various abilities, so much hilarious fun)
8) Star Wars: Rogue Sqaudron (N64) (Another great 64 game, this was my favorite SW game on the 64)
9) Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast) (both were great but I prefer the first)
10) Spyro the Dragon (PS1) (Just a fun and beautiful storybook world. A fun adventure game)
11) Kirby: Super Star (Is this cheating? Haha this is like 8 games. But this is just such a fun game)
12) Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (So much Sonic gameplay in this set, it's great)
13) CTR: Crash Team Racing (PS1) (This is a great kart racer with the Crash Bandicoot characters, my brother and I mainly played this because we never bought the Mario Kart games)
14) Banjo Kazooie (I admittedly got into this franchise late -played it on Rare Replay- but I had always wanted it on the N64 and never got it, but now that I've played it I feel like I retroactively love it haha)
15) Home Alone (Genesis) (Yes, I'm serious. This game is awesome. You have to defend you home , and others in the neighborhood, from the Wet Bandits and you use various weapons you can create in a weapon crafting system from items found in the different houses. You can also set traps in the various houses before the criminals get to the house. The point is to keep the houses from being looted and flooded until the cops come, the game runs on a timer. I love it, it is a great game)

Hmm, 15, huh? I can do 10, but 15 might be tricky... I'll do 13.

13. Formula One World Championship: Beyond the Limit (Sega CD)

hqdefault.jpg

I love Formula One, as it is my second favourite sport after baseball; this game holds a special place in my heart, as it is a Formula One fan's dream. It plays beautifully and the amount of content for fans is just awesome. The last game with Ayrton Senna in it, before he passed.

12. Jungle Strike (Genesis)

38522-Jungle_Strike_(USA)_(Beta)-1459830242.png

The best title in the Strike Series, this is a wonderful title with a ton of challenge, a great story and the physics are done brilliantly. Its a fairly realistic game too.

11. Honoo no Doukyuji: Dodge Danpei (Genesis)

hqdefault.jpg

After discovering this game on an emulator, I went out and bought it immediately and it didn't leave my Genesis for almost 3 months. The game is a great sports game, but follows the manga quite closely and the anime is my all-time favourite anime as well; it wasn't translated into English, but it was translated into Italian and, since I'm Italian, I watched it with no qualms. Ricky is the man!

10. Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 (Dreamcast)

hqdefault.jpg

My favourite racing game ever, I love racing games and I'm generally really good at them. To master the Tokyo Xtreme Racer/Shutoku Battle games, you need to put in a lot of time and a lot of practice, as the games can get quite tricky. Lovely cars, lovely graphics!

9. Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle (Genesis)

hq720.jpg

Alex Kidd is one of my favourite characters ever and despite this game not being received super-well, it is still one of my all-time favourites. I love playing this game and adore everything about it. My uncle paid something like $150.00 Canadian at launch, for this game.

8. Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn)

Ne-Rai.jpg

One of Sega's RPG masterpieces (along with Phantasy Star IV and Skies of Arcadia), this is truly one of the greatest games Sega has ever made. Perfect 10s from top to bottom in every gaming element, there are few if any major (or minor, for that matter), flaws in the game. Azel is also my second favourite female Sega character and she has adorned my cell phone for the majority of years that I've owned one.

7. Skies of Arcadia (Dreamcast)

8-064.jpg

After hating RPGs, aside from Pokingmen on the GB (thank you very much, FF, you overrated, crappy franchise), I finally picked up SOA, after hearing fantastic things about it. Boy, was I ever missing out on a fantastic genre, all these years. This is, one of the best RPGs ever made and it is an AMAZING game, with brilliant characters, a great story and a wonderful battle system that few can beat. Gilder FTW.

6. Snatcher (Sega CD)

maxresdefault.jpg

Of all my favourite games in the top 6, this is the one of 2 I haven't replayed more than once (the other being EB, but that'll change soon :)). Yes, Kojima borrowed a lot from 3 famous films, yes its hard to come by, yes the story is nothing groundbreaking, it doesn't matter; this is a phenomenal game that not only is a ton of fun, but it is written brilliantly, with a ton of wit, class and awesome humour. The characters are characterised beautifully and are super memorable. Probably the best Visual Novel ever made.

5. Lunar: Eternal Blue (Sega CD)

maxresdefault.jpg

As mentioned above, playing SOA convinced me to try other RPGs and boy, did EB not disappoint. A killer soundtrack, wonderful story and gameplay and just the greatest characters in an RPG, IMO. Hiro, Jean, just all of them, simply wonderful characterisation and Working Designs did a phenomenal job translating the script. A masterpiece.

4. Yakuza 3 (PS3):

yakuza3revpic1.jpg

My favourite in the series and I deem it to be second best (after 5). Such a wonderful title and no videogame had me aspire to go Japan (and Okinawa!) as much as this game. It has a wonderful plot that could not only be a television show or movie plot, but also could be realised in real life (apparently, according to the 3 real Yakuza who were interviewed while playing this game, a very similar situation occurred at that time, in Japan), as well as wonderful characters and Kiryu truly shines in this game; he shows emotion, toughness, resiliency, this game just touches my heart in every way.

3. Shenmue II (Dreamcast):

latest

My two favourite Sega characters by gender above, I still deem 'mue II to be the greatest videogame ever crafted. We all know this game to death, so I won't elaborate on it :)

2. Final Fight CD (Sega CD):

hqdefault.jpg

My favourite console game ever, I have beaten it 213 times, coming close to 1CCing it on Mania, 3 times (one time I literally needed one power attack, either a pile driver, backdrop, something with Haggar, but Belger got me). Haggar is probably my favourite video game character ever and until I used Alex Kidd as my avatar, my avatar on websites was always either Haggar piledriving a shark or a Haggar fsjal made by myself, etc. Poison is also my favourite female videogame character ever (I know, she's whatever). This is still, IMO, the best Beat-'em-Up ever and I personally think it would make a wonderful film, even with the (supposed) similarities to Streets of Fire. Awesome game.

1. Total Annihilation (PC):

abelvet.jpg

Quite simply, my most favourite game on the planet. I have spent at least 3 years of my life, playing this game and when I lived in Calgary, I basically spent 5 hours a weekend or more on this game, thus its the game I've played the most, most-recently as well. Still a better RTS than Starcraft, C&C, AOE, the list goes on. Physics, LOS, this all mattered, when it took another 2 years for the other franchises to catch up... and they still didn't do it as well as TA.

A nice, variety of genres and consoles :)

@Truck_1_0_1_ It's rare seeing someone name a RTS as their most favorite videogame. You should check out Plannetary Annihilation if you haven't yet, made basically by the same staff of your number one pick. It's next level RTS.

Indeed; I'm an oddball, like that lol.

I have and its awesome, but I'm not into it like TA. Same with Supreme Commander; what an amazing set of games, but I just can't get into it the same way.

In no order:

Shenmue
Final Fantasy 8
Skies Of Arcadia
Toejam & Earl
Tomb Raider 2
Phantasy Star Online
Halo: Combat Evolved
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Streets of Rage
Mass Effect
The Last Of Us

Shenmue (duh)

Beyond Good and Evil (shame I'm not feelin' what I've seen of the prequel so far)

Golden Sun (this got me into RPGs back in the day, the DS sequel was such an unworthy followup to the two GBA games)

KOTOR (Really should have made a 3rd entry to tie the stories together)

Skies of Arcadia (wouldn't have the patience for it now, but loved the story, characters, and the ship battles)

Donkey Kong Country (nostalgia!)

Metroid Prime

That's all that's coming to mind. I'm not really a gamer anymore, but I bought a ps4 for Shenmue 3 specifically, and enjoyed the hell out of Rayman Legends, which I think deserves an honorable mention here. Fantastic platformer. Should go back and try to finish the Last of Us, Sonic Mania, and Celeste. Also recently grabbed Shadow of the Colossus remake.

Rules (Mandatory):
1. Only 1x game per franchise.
2. Try not to exceed 15 games (you can place 'honourable mentions' that didn't quite make the main list within a spoiler tag at the end).
Optional:
- A brief description of why it's special to you & (if applicable) why you picked it from the rest of the other installments.
- Aim for variety (so many a couple of titles per genre)
- Feel free to update/edit or to discuss these changes.
- No need to think too deeply on this, go with what you're feeling atm and reflect later, games can shift us & down at any moment.

Right, I'll have a go at this, these are the ones that come to mind, and are bound to change. I will prefix this list by saying that they are not in any particular order, nor are they necessarily good games by definition, but gave me joy in some way. Also, I'm followin the rules as best I can, but will list repeat series entries in honourable mentions.

My List of All Time Favourites
Updated August 10th, 2018

shenmue.jpg
1. Shenmue (DC)
I hardly need to describe it, we know why we love this game. For be the atmosphere, music, story, art everything just clicked for me.

ocarina .jpg
2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TIme
Truly a master piece of a game for its time. The story was epic, the land scape as large, the world seemed endless. To this day, it still stands as one of my best video game experiences.

yoshi.jpg
3. Yoshi's Island (SNES)
This is perhaps, imo, the best plattformer made. Because it actually is plattformer. Art direction is beautiful, and the share amount of leves was amazing. The bosses were great and fun.

timesplitters.jpg
4. TimeSplitters 2 (GC)
This was probably the last of the shooters I would consider fun. A combination of a very fun single-player campaign, from the same team that did Goldeneye, the multiplayer was insanely good, fun and varied. So many characters, great mechanics etc.

last of us.jpg
5. The Last of Us (PS4)
In my opinion, maybe Naughty Dogs crowning achievement. I did not want this wonderful game to end. The story was compelling, mechanics were good, and still made be scream in terror on occasions. This could actually be a fantastic movie outright.

halflife.jpg
6. Half Life 2 (X360 - Orange Box)
Need I say more? Valve made a master piece of a game with Half Life 2, it really open my eyes and wanting to work with games. Great story, mechanics and how fluid it transition the story without cut scenes was something I hadn't really experienced before.

pokemon.png
7. Pokémon Blue (GBC)
I think this was the first game and console I ever bought with my own money. The excitement of catching these 150 characters, trading with friends was a blast. I lived this game when it came out.

vicecity.jpg
8. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2)
It was difficult to choose a GTA game from the PS2 era, but Vice City stood out with its incredible atmosphere, humor, location and story. This IS maybe to this day the best GTA because how thoroughly it embodies it's self.

goldeneye.jpg
9. Goldeneye (N64)
This was hands down one of the coolest experiences I have had with a shooter, you forget it's a Bond game. The single player was great, multiplayer even greater. And it was all made funner with cheats.

mario64.jpg
10. Super Mario 64 (N64)
Who wasn't in awe of this game when it came out. The share amount of levels it had, the you of running around (IN 3D!).

rdr.jpg
11. Red Dead Redemption (X360)
Another example of how Rockstar manage to immerse you in to their world. This was a fantastic game, the story and gameplay were great!

harvest.jpg
12. Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (GC)
This is the best Harvest Moon game there is, I have tried to figure out why, but for me I think it's down to the art style, none of the other have come close to it. It was also my first one.

rogue.jpg
13. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (N64)
I had so much fun with this game, it's ridiculous. I was a pilot. To this day my fav Star Wars games, and I'm hoping for a new RS!

bioshock.jpg
14. BioShock (X360)
This game had it all, it looked incredible, the story was mysterious and interesting, the gameplay was fun and kept me guessing all the way.

tomb.jpg
15. Tomb Raider (PS4)
It was hard finding a Tomb Raider game, I loved the old ones a lot (1 and 2). But playing this open my eyes to a lot more games (like Uncharted, which I had not played). The adventure and gameplay were steller.

Honourable Mentions
  • Jumping Flash! 2 (PS)
  • Theme Hospital (PC)
  • wipeOut (PS)
