Random Gaming Thoughts

i keep forgetting how much shenmue 1 is hard work.. would of been so much cooler if they added a time jump function to the re-release. lol

I've never played past the first 10 minutes or so of RE3 despite starting it up several times. Only numbered RE besides 7 I haven't beaten. Thinking I ought to give the DC version a whirl this time.

Worth playing for Nemesis alone, by far my favourite baddie in the series (well, and Wesker). Despite being a huge Nemesis fan I've only actually completed RE3 once. Its on my list to replay though so I'll get round to it... eventually!

Also, pointless fact about RE3. In the Umbrella Chronicles you can play through condensed light gun versions of RE0, RE1, RE3 and a couple of brand new scenarios (2 was left out but would be included in the sequel Darkside Chronicles). RE3 was bizarrely cut super short in the game, the others were fun recreations of the games as lightgun games, but 3 for some reason was basically the just the first 30? minutes of the game and just... ends. 2 of the 3 chapters RE3 gets are you walking to the Police Station (something that takes around 10-20 minutes tops in the original version) and Nemesis (you know, the guy the game is centered around) is completely absent until the very final chapter. Heck, he doesn't even get all his transformations in his boss fight! Really confuses me why they did that, as the rest of the game was ace (as is the sequel). Ah well... I'm sure RE3 will get remade soon enough anyway!

Already stuck, game too hard...

I forgot all about Darkside Chronicles btw, that sounds really cool. I remember playing Umbrella Chronicles back in the day and thinking it was an absolute blast. One of these days when I stop being such a poor bastard, I need to get a proper lightgun setup going on so I can play through all these great games again.

RE3 is a weird one where its only got two difficulties - easy mode which equips you with enough to take down Umbrella single handedly while Hard I guess is the traditional RE experience, though maybe harder than usual? I did clear it on hard mode back in the day though so I should be fine on the replay, but I do remember it being harder than RE1, 2 and maybe CV.

And yeah, if you can get a PS Move and the HD releases of the Chronicles games. Looks much better on an HDTV and still play great.

Since Nintendo remade Zelda Link's Awakening they should go ahead and remake all the old Zelda titles. I keep forgetting that BOTW 2 is coming on the near future as well. You can't go wrong with the Zelda titles.

A Link to the Past (I hope they do this one next)
Legend of Zelda
Legend of Zelda 2
Minish Cap
Four Swords
Four Swords Adventures
Oracles of Seasons & Ages

My bad, I was just making a dumb joke about not being able to decide on an outfit, lmao. I went with the cop outfit fwiw. :sneaky: But yeah, as far as the actual difficulty, I went with hard and I'm finding it's at a pretty good sweet spot. Easier than RE1, but tougher than RE2. Though maybe I found RE1 tougher because it was my first RE.

Oh wow, I didn't realize there was a PS3 version. That sounds like a plan, I've been wanting a PS3 and Move for a while now for HotD3/4 and Time Crisis 4.

I love the aesthetic of gotham in the arkham knight game.
Why was this game so blasted when asylum was so praised ?

Batmobile.
Basically people really hated that the Batmobile played such a central role in the gameplay. Myself, I like the vehicle but it does ruin one particular boss fight, and my minor issue with the game is that boss fights aren't really all that great - though the encounters themselves are excellent if that makes sense?
And yeah, AK looks amazing, even now in 2019 this game looks silly good, crazy to think the game is 4 years old yet it manages to look (and run) better than many other, newer open world games. If you can get the DLC cheap (the story DLC that is) its worth playing, ties off some plot points for a few really cool (heh, sorry) characters. There's actually rumors of a new Batman game swirling around at the moment because WB starting teasing something over the weekend, and I really hope we get another game in the series, I loved all 5 games (including both Origins games) and really must replay the series again soon, aside from the most recent Spidey games its basically the only good recent example of a excellent superhero game series.

RE2 is a fairly easy game as well I found, well you get tons of supplies so it evens the odds more than other games in the series where you have to be more stingy. I agree with the difficulty assessment though, definitely find 3 one of the harder games, but RE1 has gotten easier over the years (both original and remake) because I've replayed it so many times!

And yeah, well worth getting the move for the lightgun games. I got mine for HOTD 4 especially and its amazing. The Namco collection is great as well, its got stuff like Deadstorm Pirates alongside the Crisis games, which is both hilarious and a blast to play. Pity we didn't get more ports - like Virtua Cop 3 etc.

Seeing as how my name is Brucewayne911 I felt compelled to share my two cents?. At the time Arkham Asylum was the first superhero game worthy of a GOTY nomination. Arkham Knight had a series of problems, while most were small they added up to a bad experience with the game.

1. Batmobile, gamers felt like the batmobiile was used to much. IMO this didnt bother me, anytime a developer adds a new feature to a game its gonna be used heavily.

2. The PC version if the game. This right here really hit home for me. I was so pumped for Arkham Knight that a built a gaming PC. I wanted to experience the game maxed out on ultra settings. I had a GTX 970 gpu. When the game was released to say it was bad was a understatement. The game would not go higher than 30fps and it fluctuated down to the single digits alot. The game was literally unplayable. The game would also crash randomly it was so bad that Steam was giving everybody their money back without question.

3. The Arkham Knight villain. When the main bad guy was called the Arkham Knight. This person was pretty much a militarized version of Batman. This is not the problem, the problem is the identity of this person. Building up to the release of the game Rocksteady would begin to reveal things about the Arkham Knight and most Batman fans predicted the Arkham Knight identity. Rocksteady would repeatedly reply to fans nope your wrong the Arkham Knight is a brand new character from scratch and has never appeared in the Batman universe.

Imagine playing a game for hours throwing batarangs, driving batmobiles, solving riddles and finally you get to see the identity of the Arkham Knight. This brand new villain that has never appeared on the Batman mythos. The time finally arrived the Arkham Knight took off his helmet and revealed his identity and guess who it was????? IT WAS WHO THE FUCK EVERYBODY GUESSED IT WAS FROM THE VERY BEGINNING????????. Biggest troll in gaming history. The Arkham Knight is a good game that just got in it's own way.

Batman Arkahm Origins is universally hated by most gamers. This I do not understand its literally a exact copy of Rocksteady Batman games.

Rocksteady said that Arkham Knight was to be their last Batman game. I'll bet anyone money that their big secret project they are working on is Batman related. Maybe not Arkham related but Batman nonetheless. This franchise has made to much money to walk away from. Warner Bros also owns a majority stake of the company. Thanks for letting me ramble on I'll see myself out?

Funniest thing with the Arkham Knight reveal is about an hour or two into the game and its just blatant who it is. I mean, they
literally beat you over the head with a crowbar as to who it is. Lol
.

Origins gets some hate because its glitchy and never patched. That's justifiable reasons. It also released paid DLC after release while STILL not patching the game. I've heard the DLC is actually rather darn good, I still need to grab it.

I personally took issue with some of the combat and challenges in the game. AA and AC at the time had really good enemy design, appearance and colour coding so you could instantly see who has what moves, and how you should tackle them. Origins lacked this and so you could easily lose your combo over no fault of your own. It got easier once you get the shock gauntlets though as several of my issues disappeared and combat got way more fun. Also Origins had some challenges that had to be done in certain predator missions - one of which basically sets you up with a task (I forget what now) that can basically only be done in two early locations, and if you miss them your screwed for the entire playthrough. Thanks WB...
Oh, and the "riddles" for the game didn't quite feel as fun as previous games, but the payoff at the end is actually one of my favourite moments in the series. So it was all worth it.

Now with that said, it should be noted that Origins has a few things that make it damn good. First off - the voice acting, for some reason they recast Batman and The Joker (maybe others, I forget) and... the replacements are actually pretty damn good. Batman sounds great and delivery sounds almost as good as Conroys does in the main games. Joker (whose done by Troy Baker I think?) does a really good Hamill style Joker, and delivers some brilliant lines in the game.
Then you have the roster of baddies in the game - who have some absolutely fantastic boss fights - Deathstroke, Bane, Firefly, heck even Copperhead! Lady Sheeva etc. are fantastic and I'd say this area especially is something that is better than other Arkham games, with the exception of a couple of City's really memorable moments.

I mean, I get why people have a few issues with Origins (like I do) but at the same time I really enjoyed the game. I just wish it got a current gen port as well, as I now need to dig my PS3 copy out because I badly want to replay it now!

You are actually the first person I've heard give some valid marks against Arkham Origins. Most people don't like it simply because it's not Rocksteady.

I 100% agree about the crowbar incident at that point deep down I knew but I still was holding out because Rocksteady would not budge. No matter how many times gamers guessed Arkham Knight identity Rocksteady denied every last time. That's why I question everything Rocksteady does now??

Your comments on Troy Baker's Joker and Roger Craig Batman being as good as Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil are tantamount to sacrilege. I would appreciate in the future if you would refrain from such comments?????????????

I really wish Nintendo and Sega could merge together. Both of these companies could really help each other. Nintendo could easily breathe life back into Sega's first party titles. Sega could help Nintendo develop better tech/ hardware. It still blows my mind that Sega has fallen so far they are as synonymous with gaming as anybody.

Ew no. Yakuza would be dead on its feet if Sega was stuck with the lumbering dinosaur (tech wise) that is Nintendo. That dragon engine would be dead for starters.... Sega is fine the way it is being 3rd party, lets not just ignore that it owns some of the best PC studios in the biz - their purchase of Sports Interactive alone was a genius move netting (heh) them the incredibly popular Football Manager franchise and they've got other studios that put out quality strategy titles etc.

Late to the party but I'll add my two cents.

I think Rocksteady had set the bar so high with Asylum that they were stuck in a catch-22 situation. They either played it safe and kept the same winning formula for future games in the series, or they pushed the boat out to tweak the gameplay. They opted for the former and I got the vibe the gameplay got repetitive very quickly, especially the umpteen times you were in an enclosed space with enemies, picking them off one by one.

My personal gripe with Knight was that for the third game in succession (including Origins), we had Batman in Gotham but absolutely no citizens. In City it made sense, in Origins they copped out with a snowstorm excuse, then in Knight everyone's evacuated to escape the fear toxin. But overall, it just felt like Batman was protecting a ghost town that had no soul whatsoever.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Knight, but I don't think Rocksteady could replicate the novelty charm you got from playing Asylum.

I feel in the past few years with the acquirement of Atlus that they’ve actually started to turn a corner lately. Their output in the past few years has been small but solid. Yakuza finally became a thing in the West. Judgment did better than anyone expected. Atlus is still holding strong and pumping out good stuff (Persona 5, Catherine Full Body). They’ve allowed smaller developers access to IPs (Sonic Mania, Streets of Rage IV, Shenmue III, Panzer Dragoon etc)

Yeah, I feel like Sega’s been turning a corner lately and been doing pretty well. Sure, it’s not the Juggernaut it once was but it’s not the dire dark days either.

Anyways. Death Stranding went Gold Today.

I guess Shenmue III ain’t far from going gold either.

Shenmue 3 should be going gold any day now I'd imagine, along with Doom Eternal hopefully. Those 3 games are basically my November at this point, should be a real blast, 3 very different games to play.

And yeah, Sega is doing well these days in terms of output. What people also need to remember is that Sega was actually really smart a few years back and snagged some really good PC studios as well - they have Creative Assembly for some fantastic strategy titles, Sports Interactive for the massive Football Manager series etc. But then you see people elsewhere post how Sega sucks because Persona 5 is not on Switch or Sonic is a bad series these days like its the only stuff they put out...
