So this just got announced.

Includes all DLC and outfits with additional "gameplay adjustments" made.

I really hope that last bit is basically code for 'We have now removed the outfit restrictions so you're not forced to run around an ancient lost city wearing a fugly bush for half of the game'.

I... really didn't like this game very much, personally.

BUT - I had excellent fun with the photo mode. Would honestly recommend it on that feature alone.

The TR series in general has been very... shitty, when looking at the entire catalogue; the game were only ever popular for Lara Croft and that's it.

If the hero was a generic male, this would've ended after the second title.

We had this conversation a few months ago lol :p.

Hey, it's true; she is a pop-culture (let alone videogame) icon, but the games were never anything more than slow, clunky and boring.

Had it been a PC-only game in the vein of Duke Nukem or Shadow Warrior or something (obviously a 3PS version of those games), it would've been great, but the PSX was just too weak to really make the game stand out, aside from her.

Wasnt really on my watch list but this honestly sounds really good despite me not liking star wars borderline at all.

If it ever goes on sale on Origin then I might pick it up...but November is already too stacked for me (Shenmue III, Death Stranding and Pokemon are the only three that will have my attention come November)

yeah id hold off on it too, but it still sounds like it might be worth a look down the line

So, Death Stranding won't have Game Over screens, and everyone doesn't seem to mind. To quote one site in fact, the mechanic "leaves us in awe" and "the concept behind it is genius".

Gee, I remember when Prince of Persia (2008) got utterly trashed because it tried to innovate the same thing.

Wow! Inserting a coffee straw up Kojima's ass and intensely sucking on it for dear life can really alter people's perceptions!

We (or at least me) don't know how the lack of Game Overs will work in Death Stranding yet. Also, PoP 2008 basically made all platforming trivial because there was 0 penalty to doing anything. That said, I didn't really mind them using the rewind mechanic in that way, though I did prefer the Sands Trilogy's method of having limited rewinds instead, gave more risk to situations. Also, PoP had way bigger problems than no game overs, like the combat being pretty damn awful, ruined portions of the game for me as the combat in the series seemed to get worse with each sequel the more they tried to add.

I hear this a lot, and I find it a ridiculous thing to say.

What happens if you fail a jump in POP2008? You go back to the last stable ground you were on and have to try again.
What happens if you fail a jump in a Mario game? You go back to the last checkpoint you touched and have to try again.
What happens if you fail a (mandatory) fight in Shenmue? You go back to the start of the fight and have to try again.
What happens if you get killed in a modern FPS? You go back to the last checkpoint about 15 seconds ago and have to try again.
What happens if you lose against an opponent in a puzzle game? You go back to the start of the match and have to try again.

I don't see how it's any different to every other game. The only difference is that it shows an animation of you not actually dying, but the result is exactly the same as if it'd showed an animation of the Prince screaming and falling to his death before putting "RETRY" on the screen and spawning you where it does anyway.

The combat was awful though.

As for game overs... Shenmue only has a game over if you take too long to beat the game. GTA has never had game overs. Modern FPS games don't have game overs. How is it innovative to not have a game over?

There's a huge difference to respawning at a set checkpoint to last solid part of ground. Imagine Super Meat Boy or Super Mario Bros 2 (The Lost Levels) but you respawn on the closest piece of solid ground next to what killed you, instead of back to the beginning of the level. It'd trivialise the point of the challenge of the game and dying, you'd just be brute forcing your way to victory... which is exactly what PoP did. Infinite retries with no consequence, no different ending or anything and the only thing you lose out on is a trophy if you retry too often. The platforming was actually fun in the game as well, which is the kicker, maybe having your companion on a cool down so she works more in the vein of the Sands from previous games would have satisfied me more, or maybe have made a hard mode or something...

Oh no, so you only go back ten seconds in Prince of Persia, instead of the ten seconds you go back in Super Meat Boy. It's completely different!

So... exactly the same as Super Meat Boy?

In regards to the challenge in video games dying, I think it's more down to the reason why we play them. A lot of games now are story driven so designed less to be challenging and to get you through a story. Probably the most significant change is regenerative health which I think is overused in many games. I remember playing Splinter Cell and forcing myself to be stealthy as being caught would have meant death or low health for the large part of the level.

Fast forward to Metal Gear Solid V; I would try to be stealthy and restart if I fail. However, if I got frustrated with a particular section, all I had to do was run through that section which was easy as waiting for a few seconds will get me healed.

seems good but ill have to wait for reviews to see if its worth playing.

im all for a quality star wars game but the only thing that worries me is how quickly EA nock out games.

I'm actually glad video games have gotten easier to play. Being a adult with responsibilities doesn't allow me to indulge in video games as I once did. So I enjoy a game you can experience and get through. I do think developers should make different game modes and difficulties for hardcore gamers.

I finished Observer in almost 3 sittings.
What an interesting game, still hate when devs add stealth settings to add "gameplay" and "pacing" to the game.
But great game, well written, amazing VFX, amazing graphics, lovely textures.
I love how people can make such rich experiences with a determined set of assets.
Another game that includes christian iconography in the game (not as heavily as Graydawn), I'd really love to how they get the assets, or just grab textures from the internet.
It still looks amazing even if it's somewhat old.

Ah ha! I remember when they were bigging up Heavy Rain as being innovative for its no Game Over screens too.
Just wait for Death Stranding 2...Kojima brings back the Game Over screens.
Game Critics shit their pants with glee and hail it as "GENIUS!"

Meanwhile, here's me laughing at the stupidity of it all.

Say, remember when Shenmue had no game over screens? (the second game had Retry screens, but the first game, to my memory, had no game over screen.)
