I see the "kinda poor" marketing we've been seeing as one of the corners they had to cut with the limited money they have.
Even Deep SIlver must have a certain amount of money they can spend promoting this game.

On the other hand tho, that doesn't excuse some of the poor tweets and promotions using old meterial.

Other than the crap screenshots, the main picture of Ryo and the landscape looks really good and the marketing blurb is pretty well written too. I certainly like "a story of adventure, mystery, friendship , martial arts and ultimately....revenge!" that's a pretty good, succient description about Shenmue all right.

With the Sonic capsule toys and things, I imagine the thought process at Sega was along the lines of: "It's possible to make a Shenmue game without our other valuable IPs in it, so that's an optional luxury we can let Ys Net pay for if they want it."

With Ys Net then agreeing that it was indeed only a luxury and their limited funds were better spent elsewhere.

Its probably really complicated because Sega is only okay with the name Shenmue 3 because they had no interest in this game.
But they clearly didnt want it to promote or sell as a official Sega game.
But if they put Sonic, Virtua Fighter and all that stuff in the game, then it would be a Sega game.
You cant do a separate game that just continues the story with a different publisher
but also keep all of the licensing stuff in it. At least not for free.
The ingame "Sega" logo was probably the only thing were Sega said they can use as a little fan service.

Theres more Sega stuff in the game besides the SEGA logo. Afterburner music and QTE Title (BIG TITLE)for example.

Thats still something completely different than saying "Hey look everybody, we have official licensed Sonic toys
and Outrun in this game."

The truth is they probably had to go to SEGA to get permission for each individual bit of SEGA IP they've used. Yu Suzuki has mentioned how it can take time to get approval, so the existence and/or lack of SEGA stuff in the game is probably because some stuff got approved, some stuff didn't, and some stuff Yu just didn't think it'd be worth going through the approval process for.

This may explain why there are no SEGA capsule toys. Imagine if they had to get approval for every single one? Yu may have thought it wasn't worth the effort and time it'd take. Or maybe he wanted to take the opportunity to start fresh?

About time. If this had the Season Pass I'd probably get it but as it stands I'll most likely stick to my KS Collectors + Digital Deluxe combo.

Going to do a pretty speedy runthrough of both in the run up to III's release, my plan is to hopefully go right from the credits of II to III's intro in one day! I'm just waiting for the official word from Yu before I start (I have plenty of time anyway.
