Its crazy that a great game like Red Dead Redemption 2 gets praise for its insane level of detail and its immersive realistic gameplay. Sega had a game(Shenmue) back in 1999 that was doing those things but more. My mind gets
just thinking about the hundreds of NPCs that had daily routines and mini back stories.
IMO the downfall of Shenmue was Sega's bankruptcy. If Sega was able to squeeze out 2 more console life cycles I believe we would've only been 1 game away from completion. The Dreamcast only sold a little over 9 million units and with Sega's bankruptcy on the horizon Shenmue 2 was doomed. There was no way another developer was gonna invest the type if money Sega had already.
Going forward Yu has said he wants to make Shenmue more appealing to a wider audience(way points, mini maps, time skip, etc). I don't have a problem with this I just hope there is a Shenmue mode were you can enjoy the game as it was meant to be.
