Random Thoughts

A year or so ago an elderly neighbour knocked my door to say her mother had fallen. Helped as much as I could, she was taken to hospital and died not long after. Neighbour on the other side knocked last week to say her husband had fallen. Helped him up, he is now in hospital.

His brain hasn't been all too there and when I helped him up, something was obviously wrong. 89 years old and doubt he's coming back.

That’s not good...I don’t like the idea of nursing homes but there are times when I think being in one might be better for some who may need more immediate attention.

That said, I do recall when my grandmother fell some years back and got a head injury on her tv stand. Got an ambulance real quick and she seemed to recover. But then she wanted to move into a nursing home, and a week later passed away. Thing is it wasn’t exactly clear whether what she actually died of was a long term effect from her head injury.

Another weird coincidence. I was filling out a form and it asked me for my post code so gave a made up one the one I typed it just so happened to be my primary school, the only address at that post code. How weird is that?

I have weird sinus problems. At night, just the slightest draught or feeling of cold on my exposed skin makes me sniffle and rub my nose like crazy. A couple cloves of garlic and the symptoms are gone for a few hours. I swear this vegetable is a miracle when it comes to allergies and such.

Japanese Manga can be wonderfully weird and never not fun to translate (yes, this is something I translated...it's never been published in English.)

Not the full story...just a small slice. I just thought it was amusing.

Genuinely asking, why are people so sensitive about discussing coronavirus? Just noticed two threads have been locked (one which, judging from the title, probably had it coming). You can ask for an opinion on any forum without it getting locked.

No issues with discussing COVID19. There's even a dedicated thread that's 23 pages long (created by you I believe) which is perfectly fine.

But when it comes to hosting discussions that try to cast doubt upon life saving medicine by spreading debunked lies, we draw the line. It may seem like inconsequential discussion, but that kind of talk can literally cost people their lives if they become misinformed.

You didn't see the original version of that "Wake up" thread. Literal paragraphs of conspiracy nut level garbage about Bill Gates wanting to enslave humanity. I'm sure you can understand why we acted the way we did when faced with that.

As for the 'Will You Get the Vaccine" poll, it's just not appropriate when as many people should be getting the vaccine as possible. It also provides an outlet for people like the OP of the previously mentioned thread to spread their conspiracy theories, so locking is the only real sensible option.

Not wanting to start anything but just chiming in my own two cents. What isn't a touchy subject these days?

Granted I have no idea what happened with the Covid stuff earlier with that Blixit guy, but just in general...people have become so touchy about most things that I honestly feel civil discussion is becoming more and more a thing of the past as we turn into irrational beings capable of only shouting, dismissal and partisan views. This is partially why I don't have a Twitter account because I can't stand the garbage going on over there, but that's another story. The with us or against us mentality has been on the rise more and more over the years and it is kind of tiring. Especially if you're someone like me who is just trying to find reason and civil discussion. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that's what happened here with the Blixit guy....I'm saying this as to what is going on in general in the world right now.

But that's just an answer to your question in general. I think over the last few years people have become more and more sensitive and more and more ready to jump at the slightest hint of discussion that is maybe in opposition. That's just my thought in general.

The virus is just another touchy subject that could possibly come back to peoples politics I'm afraid. Again, I'm not trying to further this or start shit, I'm just offering my perspective. Like I said, I have no idea what that Blixit guy wrote originally and I'm not trying to take sides here.

Anyways....

I wonder if people are becoming more sensitive or platforms are just giving the sensitive ones more exposure. Either way, media and government seems to react based on these published opinions.

I appreciate that certain things are just beyond looney; either in their content or the way the person has proposed the debate, but even certain discussions are just shut down. You can't post anywhere about getting opinions on vaccinations, coronavirus handling and so on. In fact, this is the only forum where I've seen a coronavirus topic sustained but if someone mentions something that's slightly out of "accepted" opinion, it seems there's an issue.

For example, if I was going to ask about the vaccine, would that be shut down if we were going to have an adult conversation? Or, the second someone says they believe they can be harmful is it just going to get shut down?
