Where did the term cancel culture came from ?
I've started hearing it a lot this last week.
Also, media plays a big part of it, is it really news someone calling out someone else on twitter of inappropriate behavior ?
That's pretty much defamation, but they cover their ass saying "alleged". At the end of the day the result is the same.
We live in weird times.

I think it’s just another term for outrage culture, really. Same basic idea. Feign outrage to get your way. The first i heard the term cancel culture was from Dave Chapelle and the whole Ion Maiden controversy. Those were the first two times I heard it.

Fuck IKEA, seriously fuck em. God knows why they have so much hype around them. Went to their store and they have a few cool stuff here and there but the vast majority of their furniture looks cheap and is overpriced, especially their sofas.

Anyway as bed like it was not available anywhere else, I got one for my son. Delivery was delayed for 3 days meaning I took work off for nothing. It comes in 4 boxes labelled 1 to 4 but I am struggling to see why they did this as the first box you open is not the one you need to start things off, nor does it contain instructions. So, I now have 3/4 boxes opened and on the bedroom floor as I had to find the one with the instructions and screws.

First bit is attaching a few wheels to the piece of wood. To my surprise, there no pre-drill holes and I have to bore the wood myself. A bit annoying but will be even more so if things don't measure up at the end because these holes look like they were made by a pencil.

Seriously. And also the parts are not labelled either. FFS

Here and there, but I am a bit of a perfectionist so hate it when I screw up something. I am still putting this damn bed together and, as usual, there was something I put the wrong way round so had to spend 20 minutes or so taking it apart to fix the problem.

It's weird looking at this place now (not saying it's bad). So different to the place I used to kill so much of my free time on.

Do any of you guys happen to know where some of the very older members back on the old forum have gone? Members like south_carmain, OL, Mittenz. They posted alot and became kind of the regular guys that posted. Did they sign up under different usernames or just disappear? I mean OL was a moderator.

I'm south_carmain, Mittenz still posts from time to time, I'm not sure where OL is though. I think with the new atmosphere here a lot of us find it difficult to be regulars these days. Some have also been banned for whatever reason and others didn't bother making the migration.

I can only speak for myself but we had a very unique and fun group of regulars who had a similar sense of humour and all enjoyed things like games and movies. Most who posted on a regular basis weren't Shenmue crazy anymore and everything to discuss about Shenmue had been disscussed to death making Shenmue talk pretty boring. I used to barely even look at the topics in the Shenmue section of the forums, I remember someone missed Shenmue III being announced until it was posted in another topic in general gaming because they avoided them.

Once Shenmue III was announced more 'Shenmue fans' started appearing in the forum. It went from regulars I knew by name just by looking at their profile picture to tons of people with Shenmue avatars with less then 100 posts who didn't really contribute to actual discussion.

I've never really liked Shenmue fans much despite loving the series as they seemed a weird and bitter bunch, angry whenever someone likes anything else more then their precious Shenmue and think the games were the first to do anything any other game did. Even recently there's a Death Stranding and Yakuza topic which have people comparing them to Shenmue because people can't discuss anything without mentioning Shenmue.

I've been looking at this place alot the last week because I've been stuck at home for various reasons but once the migration from the old place happened I realised this wasn't the same place anymore and sadly stopped clicking my bookmark everyday.

Wouldn't it make sense that Shenmue fans would discover and join the forums post-Shenmue 3 announcement? I'm not sure how Shenmue fans talking about Shenmue on a Shenmue fan forum is not contributing to the "actual discussion" considering the game is the reason this place exists.

The Dojo "regulars" have constantly rotated over the years, it's just how it goes. The gang who were clearly regulars when I joined in 2003 at age 13 are all pretty inactive now...and have been for 10+ years.

I mostly posted in the Shenmue forums, which is still true (granted, the off-topic discussions are few and far between these days) but I've come to really respect this place and the members who keep it going, even if it's just an occasional post.

While the forum may be slower and less exciting in 2019 vs 2003, it's also a much more stable environment. There was always some drama going on back then, and the sheer amount of trolling, hacking etc certainly tapered off, what's left is a pretty mature community that I enjoy being a part of, even if it's at an arms-length.

Anyone remember the names of the old school Tokyo/Japan vloggers? I mean the first ones from back in 2006-2010. I tried looking them up but youtube is so saturated with the instagram type vloggers that it's impossible to find them

EDIT: Nevermind I found them, I was thinking of rodger swan and tokyo cooney
